Are you looking for an exciting new role as a Drilling Lead? In this role, you will lead high-impact oil sands projects at massive scale, overseeing pad and access construction for up to 1,000 wells per year—while guiding multidisciplinary teams through complex geophysical programs and regulatory environments. Minimum Requirements:

  • 7-10 years of industry related experience in Winter access and Well pad construction, reclamation and / or Seismic planning and execution for both In Situ and Mining operations
  • Technical Diploma or Undergraduate degree in Natural Resources, Engineering or Geoscience
  • Strong understanding of Regulatory and Environmental legislation and requirements for Drilling, Completions and Geophysical operations in Alberta, but not limited to Surface Land, Exploration and AER Directives
  • Strong understanding of Survey systems and processes in Alberta
  • Skilled in contractor evaluation, contractor management, and project management
  • Proficient in project planning, cost control, documentation, and Siteview software
  • Experience both participating and leading multidisciplinary teams

Responsibilities:

  • Effectively lead a team of Contract Supervisors and service providers for pad and access construction & reclamation for up to 1000 wells/yr. that include coreholes, observation, disposal, injection, and geotechnical wells across all Suncor and Syncrude project areas
  • Collaborate with Drilling, Completions, Resource Teams, Operations, Production, Mine Operations, Geoservices, First Nations, Trappers, Third Parties, Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) and Alberts Environment and Parks (AEP)
  • Lead the planning and execution of Geophysical acquisition for In-Situ and Oilsands operations including 2D, 3D and 4D Seismic, TEM, and AEM surveys
  • Promote EHS excellence and ensure compliance throughout the lifecycle of Oil Sands Projects
  • Responsible for incident management and the ownership of resulting investigations and corrective actions / learnings
  • Effectively lead multidisciplinary teams through a gated project process, applying lessons learned from industry and previous projects

Location and other key details:

  • You will work out of our Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Ave S.W.
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needs
  • Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will be based on years of experience and scope of work
