About the role

Job Description With over 130 years of experience navigating in some of the world’s most complex and difficult waters, Seaspan Marine is the largest and most diverse tug & barge company on Canada’s West Coast, providing more than 2,500 ship assist & escort services annually, while our fleet of over 100 specialty and general-purpose barges provide critical transportation for many of BC’s largest industries and major marine construction projects.

The Intern, Tug & Barge Maintenance for this internship will work closely with our Maintenance and Engineering departments to expand the functionality of a preventative maintenance program that facilitates lifecycle maintenance and survey planning for improved cost control, resource management and equipment reliability. Seaspan Marine Transportation is the largest and most diverse tug & barge company on Canada’s West Coast with a fleet of modern and powerful vessels. Our services include ship docking, vessel escort, emergency towing, fuel transportation and tug & barge services. We also offer ship bunkering, ship building & repair through our affiliated companies. Our extensive fleet of specialty and general-purpose barges provide critical transportation for many of BC’s largest industries. This is a unique opportunity for a young professional that provides a deeper exposure to the marine industry and work with our marine technical department.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver. What You’ll Do

  • Understand the capabilities of our maintenance system and identify gaps.
  • Work with the maintenance & engineering team to implement improvements.
  • Integrate new information into the maintenance plan.
  • Create updated guidelines for the maintenance system, proper methods of system use and system functionality.

What You’ll Bring

  • Enrollment in a Mechanical, Electrical, Integration, Industrial or related degree.
  • Experience and/or knowledge in the Marine Industry is an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills and above average proficiency with computers.
  • Work well in a team environment as well as being disciplined to work independently.
  • Understanding requirements that they would be regularly visiting vessels and different areas of our maintenance and shipyard facilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and intellectual curiosity.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.
