What you'll do
The Certification Program Office (CPO) at Canadian Tire Corporation (CTC), Limited is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a program to oversee the execution of Internal Control over Financial Reporting (ICFR) and Disclosure Controls and Procedures (DC&P) for the Enterprise.
Reporting to the Manager, Internal Controls & Certification, you will provide support to enable CTC, SportChek, Mark’s, Canadian Tire Financial Services (CTFS), Canadian Tire Petroleum (CTP) and CT Real Estate Investment Trust (CT REIT) in the development and execution of components of the certification program to address requirements related to securities regulations, in particular National Instrument (NI) 52-109. As the successful candidate, you will be exposed to several business units, all levels of management, and key processes and controls within the CTC group of companies.

Quarterly CEO/CFO Certification (30%):
- Facilitate the quarterly disclosure questionnaire and Management’s control attestation process in support of NI 52-109 regulatory requirements.
- Prepare quarterly Certification Steering Committee, Disclosure Committee and Audit Committee and Board presentations.
- Work with Management to develop, update, and maintain internal control documentation (i.e. process narratives, flowcharts, and risk and control matrices) that accurately describes business processes and highlights controls based on financial reporting risks.

Annual Internal Control Testing (50%):
- Assist with the development of the annual internal control testing plan.
- Assist with planning of business internal control testing engagements which includes reviewing/writing test scripts, preparing work papers and coordinating with Management regarding timing of tests.
- Conduct design assessment walkthroughs and perform operating effectiveness testing of key controls.
- Document results of testing and validate/ report results to Business and CPO management.

External Financial Statement Audit Coordination (10%):
- Liaise with the External Auditor to coordinate External Audit requirements.
- Participate and/lead in special projects as assigned.

Annual Internal Control Scoping (5%):
- Assist with the annual Scoping exercise to determine which business units, processes, and controls are in scope for ICFR for the fiscal year.
- Assist with the annual Materiality Assessment required for scoping and deficiency assessment purposes.

Other (5%)
- Assist the business in identifying and implementing process and control improvements
- Track and monitor control deficiency remediation activities and assess the adequacy of corrective actions.
- Assist in ad hoc projects and initiatives as required.
What you bring
- University degree with an emphasis on Accounting or Finance.
- Completion of, or working towards, relevant certification (e.g. CPA, CIA, CISA)
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in areas such as control testing, reporting, risk management, or audit
- Solid understanding of Accounting and auditing theories and principles.
- Working knowledge of NI 52-109 and/or SOX (Section 404/302).
- Strong analytical, problem solving, and data analysis skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Able to multi-task and effectively manage competing priorities.
- Able to work with people at all levels of the organization.
- Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.
- Experience in retail industry is considered an asset.
