Primary Purpose
Provide technical leadership in the production of fluff pulp. To discover, develop, improve, analyze, problem solve, and monitor process methods and procedures with the objective of manufacturing pulp products safely, economically, of the highest quality while meeting or exceeding environment commitments and requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Abide by all pertinent safety, health, quality and environmental rules and requirements. Participate in inspections, analysis and other mill programs to continuously improve safety, health, quality and environmental performance.
- Monitor existing process operations, detect substandard operations and quality issues, and implement corrective action to ensure optimum process performance.
- Provide technical knowledge and expertise directed towards improving product quality, productivity and production cost.
- Maintain a current knowledge of technical developments. Assess their value of application to current mill operations and implement where appropriate.
- Maintain appropriate contacts with vendors, research, development, and technical services groups internally or externally that are needed to provide special skills and services that are not provided by mill staff.
- Assist in improving and developing products that are competitive in quality, profit potential and consistent with market requirements.
- Evaluate process equipment needs. Assist in the selection, installation, and start-up of new process systems, and implement operating practices that lead to the optimum operation of these process systems.
- Communicate fully with supervisors, subordinates, and others who have need to know. Be informative without being obtrusive or vexatious. Communicate in a way that is timely, yet prompt; complete, yet concise, yet accurate; and clear, yet responsive.
- Participate in the selection, implementation and continuation of applicable laboratory test required for pulp manufacturing.
Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (preferably chemical) with 0-5 years of experience in an operating situation.
- Sufficient expertise and/or education to evaluate, select, and/apply engineering principles of their discipline without close supervision.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft products, plant applications and plant information software systems.
- Knowledge of general laboratory test procedures and methods required for manufacturing.
- General knowledge of applicable safety and environmental requirements for manufacturing.
