RVH is the largest surgical program in the North Simcoe Muskoka Local Health Integration Network. (NSM LHIN) As a member of the Medical Devise Reprocessing team the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician (MDRT) will reprocesses all reusable medical devices/equipment, flexible endoscopes and supplies. The MDRT adheres to specific guidelines and standards set by organizations such as CSA (Canadian Standards Association), PIDAC (Provincial Infections Diseases Advisory Committee), and MDRAO (Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Ontario).
POSITION SUMMARY
The MDRT works in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and accuracy is essential. In this role you will be expected to work within a team environment. working in areas including Scope Reprocessing and Medical Device Reprocessing. The day-to-day activities/priorities change and the MDRT must be flexible and able to adapt with the changing priorities of the Operating Room and clinics within the Healthcare Centre. The MDRT works within the various Medical Device Reprocessing areas to provide reprocessed medical devices and scopes for the operating room, surrounding area clinics, and inpatient units. As part of the Part Time Master rotation, the MDRT rotates through day, evening, night, and weekends shifts.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must have at least one of the following to be considered for this position:
- Successful completion of a Sterile Processing/Medical Device Technician Course through an accredited College with proof of completed practicum within the last 2 years, or;
- CSA Canadian Medical Device Reprocessing Technician certification (valid within the last 5 years), with 1 year of current medical device reprocessing work experience, or;
- Medical Device Reprocessing Association of Ontario (MDRAO) course (valid within the last 5 years), with 2 years of current medical device reprocessing work experience
The successful candidate is required to have the following:
- Experience within the last year of relevant Medical Device Reprocessing and or Scope Reprocessing.
- Experience working within a team environment.
- Attention to detail, following MIFU's, quality assurance adherence (essential)
- Demonstrated working knowledge of Decontamination/Inspection/Assembly/Sterilization process, one way workflow.
- Must be physically capable of lifting (11.3kg/25lbs) regularly, pushing/pulling heavy carts, standing and walking for long periods of time.
- Must be able to rotate through all shifts and roles within the department.
- Good attendance and ability to adhere to tight deadlines (essential)
- Demonstrated knowledge of Aseptic technique
- Demonstrated knowledge of Medical Terminology
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrated commitment to ethical accountability.
- General understanding of Microbiology, the Quality Control process, Infection Prevention and Control awareness, and the ability to consistently deliver high quality results.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with general data entry and computer knowledge.
- General knowledge of how to use an Instrument Tracking Program an asset
- General knowledge of how to use MS Word and Excel is considered an asset

Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, located in Barrie, Ontario, provides safe, high-quality care for residents across a large geographical region including Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka. The area is home to more than 450,000 residents, with half of RVH’s patients living outside the City of Barrie.
As the largest health centre in North Simcoe Muskoka, RVH provides highly specialized services, and technology not found anywhere else in the region. This includes the only interventional radiology suites for minimally invasive surgeries, vascular services, advanced stroke care, as well as dedicated trauma rooms in its large Emergency department. RVH is also home to the Hudson Regional Cancer Centre, Simcoe Muskoka Regional Heart Program, Simcoe Muskoka Regional Child and Youth Program and the RVH Regional Renal Program meaning distance is no longer a factor for residents receiving lifesaving treatment.
