37.50 hours/week Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm (position is subject to an annual summer lay-off period which is approximately 8 weeks.)
Salary Range
onsite: $55.91- $63.43 per hour (In Nunavut)
offsite: $44.46- $53.06 (Not-in-Nunavut - virtual care)
Proposed Start Date: January 5, 2026

We are presently hiring a full-time school Speech-Language Pathologist (S-LP) to work on our team of dedicated and knowledgeable SLPs providing quality services in Nunavut schools. You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, supporting students and the school team to meet the needs of all learners. You can be based anywhere in Canada but must be flexible to travel regularly to provide services in Nunavut schools and provide virtual follow up services from a home-based office.
Responsibilities:
CLIENT CARE:
-
Conducts an accurate clinical assessment relevant to the client's needs.
-
Establishes, implements and evaluates appropriate therapeutic interventions for individual clients.
-
Consults with the client and multidisciplinary team member to modify or discontinue interventions as appropriate.
-
Acts in a manner consistent with the professional responsibilities and standards of practice.
PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT:
-
Develops program plans for individuals and groups that will be implemented in the school setting. Works with families, school support staff, caregivers and other health professionals to demonstrate how programs and equipment are to be used in the relevant setting.

Provides consultation and work in partnership with a variety of multidisciplinary teams and community and government agencies to determine the most appropriate services and programs for individual clients and communities in Nunavut.

Develops new SLP programs to address the needs of Nunavut students, in cooperation with the School Therapy Services Team Leader, Director of Medical Rehabilitation Programs, and the Department of Education.
EDUCATION:
-
Helps the client and caregivers understand the nature of the client's disorder and sets and reviews goals in collaboration with them.
-
Provides education to clients, families, the school team, and other caregivers on how to carry out intervention recommendations.
-
Provides ongoing school based education and health promotion.
-
Participates in Educational Activities by:
-
Making recommendations, training, supervising and/or evaluating medical rehabilitation students and school team members such as teachers and assistant as appropriate.
-
Providing public education through teaching sessions.
-
Acting as a resource to the school team.
-
Maintains professional competence by keeping abreast of current practices and therapies to contribute to achieving the best outcomes for clients.
MANAGEMENT:
-
Manages client care's indirect activities such as equipment prescription, referral management, community visit preparation, documentation and other activities.
-
Contributes to the management of the department by making recommendations for Capital Budget needs, collaborates in the development and achievement of departmental goals and objectives; and, collects and analyzes workload statistics to ensure appropriate program direction.
-
Maintains written procedures, indexes, logs and records for activities within the area of responsibility. Maintains appropriate file systems and records with guides and indexes, including computer records, back-up files, etc.

Provides the assessment findings, analysis, treatment, response to treatment, and discharge planning in the patient chart.

Performs other related duties as determined by School Therapy Services Team Leader and the Director of Medical Rehabilitation Programs.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING REQUIRED:

A Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology is required.
-
Current registration to practice as a Speech Language Pathologist with good standing in any one province or territory is required.
-
Certification with the Speech-Language and Audiologists Canada (SAC) is required or must be eligible for certification.
EXPERIENCE:
-
Experience with preschool and school age children is required.
-
General clinical experience of two or more years is preferred.
-
Experience writing and drafting own reports is preferred.
-
Demonstrated leadership/supervisory experience is preferred.
-
Experience in program development is preferred.
-
Experience working in Response to Intervention model is preferred.
-
Experience working in schools is preferred.
-
Cross cultural awareness and experience is preferred.
-
Experience with virtual therapy and virtual therapy platforms is preferred.
-
An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Effective communication skills, both in oral and written are required.
-
Understanding of the health care system and health care practices is required.
-
Time management, organizational and problem solving skills are required.
-
Excellent interpersonal skills are essential.

Must have a well-developed understanding of professional responsibility and confidentiality.

Computer literacy is required.

Must be able to work as a team member but with limited supervision and therefore must be self-directed and able to prioritize own work

Inuktitut Language proficiency is an asset.

The ability to work on a multidisciplinary team is required.

Must be creative and adaptable in working situations which may vary greatly in their quality and availability of resources.
