About the role

Settlement Practitioner – Temporary

Lethbridge Family Services (LFS) is seeking a settlement practitioner to join our Immigrant Services department! This role guides newcomers through their personal settlement needs with resources and assistance relating to culture, education, recreation, finance, social services, and more. Settlement practitioners take a holistic approach to help newcomers to adapt to Canadian society. The incumbent is responsible for updating the client database and promoting services by conducting outreach activities and presentations to community groups.

Settlement Practitioners:

  • assess client needs (including strengths and barriers) in a first language where possible to develop an individualized settlement plan,

  • refer clients to appropriate community resources based on assessed needs,

  • maintain a high level of confidentiality,

  • follow-up regularly with clients on progress towards achieving their goals and outcomes,

  • prepare, maintain, review, and develop client documentation and reports, and

  • ensure timely reporting to direct supervisors and funders.

Required skills and qualifications:

  • undergraduate degree and/or diploma in human services, social work, psychology, sociology, anthropology, or education. A combination of education and experience may be considered,

  • cross cultural awareness and sensitivity,

  • proven high levels of proficiency in computer skills, and

  • an extensive knowledge of community resource networks.

All new employees must provide a police information check and vulnerable sector check dated not less than 90 days prior to the date of hire.

Number of positions available: 1

Hours: Temporary position until March 31, 2027. Monday – Friday 35 hours/ week
