Purpose: Obtains all necessary information from patients/families; processes patient charts, and ensures hospital patient information system is updated and maintained. Pre-registers all patients for day surgery, Obs., G.I. unit, etc., orders lab records, verifies and edits information. Prepares numerous forms, prepares and types monthly reports, completes surveys as requested, monitors bed closures to balance MOH report on a daily basis, generates statistics, and updates policies and procedures as needed.

Education and Training:

  • Successful completion of grade twelve or equivalent (i.e. General Education Development (GED) or Academic and Career Entrance (ACE)

  • Ministry of Labour “Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps” training certificate is required.

Experience:

  • Recent relevant experience required within the last year

Knowledge/Skills Ability:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and proficiency in Medical Terminology

  • Demonstrated ability to type a minimum of 50 w.p.m.

  • Proficiency in data entry and working with computerized Patient Information and Order Entry systems

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office software, i.e. Excel, Word and Outlook

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the proven ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians and other health care professionals

  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and the ability to function in a multi-tasked environment

Personal Suitability:

  • Demonstrated positive work record and good attendance record
