Days/Hours of Work: Saturday to Wednesday – 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, Sundays: 9:30 am – 4:30 pm, 37.5 hrs/week
Closing Date: Wednesday, October 22nd, 5:00 PM
POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Associate Director of Thrift, the Thrift Store Manager plays a key role in its daily operations. Utilizing excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to supervise a team of staff and volunteers, the Thrift Store Manager cultivates a positive workplace and is a role model of exceptional customer service. They also work closely with the other Thrift Store Managers and Assistant Managers to share resources and contribute to the success of all our locations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Team Leadership and Volunteer Engagement
- Manage, lead and engage a team, including volunteers, providing guidance and support
- Support recruitment and training of new staff and volunteers
- Ensure respectful and valued volunteer support by welcoming, engaging, and thanking volunteers each shift
Operations
- Ensure efficient day-to-day operations, including inventory management, pricing, and opening/closing procedures
- Implement strategies to maximize sales and achieve financial targets
- Ensure compliance with BC Employment Standards and Beacon organizational policies
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and inviting store environment
- Register work orders in IM Care for general repairs and maintenance
- Monitor store supplies and arrange for supplies to be reordered as needed
Customer Service and Community Engagement:
- Foster a welcoming, open, inclusive, and customer-friendly environment
- Collaborate with the community to enhance store visibility and engagement
- Contribute to the development of marketing initiatives to promote the thrift store
- Respond to customer questions and complaints in a timely and professional manner
Budget and Reporting
- Contribute to the development of the annual budget
- Prepare regular reports on sales, inventory, and other relevant metrics for the Associate Director
- Coordinate with the Associate Director on major purchases, operational changes and pricing strategies
- Perform other related duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Proven experience in retail management, preferably in a thrift store setting
- Experience working with volunteers
- Knowledge of BC Labour Laws and regulations
- Level 1 Occupational First Aid is considered an asset
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong leadership and team management skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and creatively to meet organizational goals
- Exceptional customer service skills
- High level of organizational and multitasking abilities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to motivate, inspire, direct and guide volunteers
- Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Teams, Excel, etc.)

Beacon Community Services serves vulnerable populations including seniors, people with disabilities and children. Protecting these people and our teams on whom they rely on is critical to us. Accordingly:
- All successful applicants must consent to a Solicitor General’s Criminal Record Check.
- All successful applicants are required to disclose their COVID-19 vaccination status upon hire. Vaccination is a requirement in some of our facilities. Depending on future public health developments, Beacon may implement a vaccination requirement as a condition of ongoing employment for all our workplaces.
