About the role
General Information:
The Cowichan Valley Regional District is now accepting applications for casual Program Assistant I opportunities in the South Cowichan Recreation Division within the Community Services Department. Reporting to the Manager, South Cowichan Recreation and directly supervised by the Programs & Marketing Coordinator, the Program Assistant I assists with implementing recreation programs and special events including program leadership, supervision, instructional support, and administration, and encourages participation in recreation programs and special events.
Qualifications:
- Secondary School graduation or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- One (1) year of experience in a recreation leadership capacity, including experience instructing and supervising recreation programs and events.
- Current First Aid Level 1 with CPR
- Class 5 drivers license – employer provided vehicle

Hours of Work:
Casual hours of work are scheduled based on operational need and will be required to work a flexible variety of shifts including days & evenings on weekdays & weekends. As this is a casual opportunity, there are no guaranteed hours of work.
Salary:
This position is unionized (CUPE Local 358) and has a wage range of three steps, $23.24 - $24.43 - $25.61 per hour (2025 rates), plus an additional 14.5% pay in lieu of vacation, benefits and statutory holidays.
