About the role
School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson) is currently accepting applications for the position of Grounds Equipment Operator 2.
This is a full-time, permanent position, working 10 months per year (Layoff period: January/February). Following successful completion of the probationary period, the incumbent will be eligible for Extended Health and Dental Benefits, as well as Group Life Insurance. School District No. 73 belongs to the Municipal Pension Plan.
Under the limited supervision of the Manager of Grounds, the incumbent is required to safely and independently operate all mobile support equipment in the Grounds Department while providing advice, direction and guidance to other Grounds employees. Work is varied and requires independent judgement and initiative.
TYPICAL DUTIES:

Performs normal maintenance tasks involved in maintaining playgrounds and playing fields similar to the duties carried out by a Groundsperson while safely and independently operating all mobile support equipment in the Grounds Department.

Assigns, directs or guides employees in lower classifications at various work sites located throughout the School District and indicates concerns to the Manager of Grounds.

Occasionally performs heavy lifting and labour-intensive duties

Performs snow removal duties as required.

Required to follow all safe work procedures, participate in Occupational Health and Safety Training, and report any hazards in the workplace.

Other assigned job-related duties.
ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
-
Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with the public, students, teachers, Administrative Officers and other employees of the Board.

Ability to perform a variety of tasks with limited supervision.
-
Ability to operate various types of Grounds equipment and perform regular maintenance duties on same.
-
Ability to provide advice, direction and guidance to other Grounds employees.
-
Ability to work independently.
-
Considerable knowledge and certification needed for the operation of Grounds Equipment.
-
Knowledge of or willing to take training to safely operate Bobcat, man lift, mowers, forklifts, chainsaw, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preferably Grade 12.
- Willingness to complete the Canadian Playground Safety Institute’s Canadian Certified Playground Inspector program
- Two years proven previous experience in landscaping and operation of Grounds equipment.
- Must be physically able to perform all duties of the position.
- Valid B.C. Class 5 Driver’s License with a Code 20 heavy trailer endorsement.
