Reporting to the Director, Marketing Operations and Events within the Clients and Markets team, the Specialist, Events transforms BLG's business development objectives into strategically crafted experiential touchpoints that deepen client relationships and amplify market presence.

This role orchestrates meaningful connections through sophisticated event programming—seminars, conferences, sponsorships, receptions, virtual engagements, and distinctive branded experiences—that showcase BLG's capabilities and competitive positioning. In support of client development and retention, the incumbent ensures every experiential interaction reflects our commitment to excellence and strategic partnership approach.

As a core contributor to BLG's National Events Team, key responsibilities include designing comprehensive event strategies, executing flawless client experiences, and developing scalable event frameworks that support firm-wide relationship-building initiatives. The role also champions key internal programming as determined by the Senior Manager, Events.

The successful candidate combines advanced project management expertise with comprehensive event strategy and execution capabilities. They are detail-oriented, strategically minded, and thrive in collaborative, fast-paced environments. They are a brand advocate, ensuring every client interaction maintains BLG's professional excellence standards while contributing to our evolution as the "firm of the future."

Key Responsibilities

Event Management & Logistical Coordination

  • Partner with the Director, Marketing Operations to ensure seamless brand alignment and best-in-class event execution that advances business development objectives
  • Independently plan, manage, and execute high-impact events that deliver measurable business development results
  • Architect comprehensive project plans encompassing budgets, approvals, key milestones, and deliverables to guarantee flawless, on-time execution
  • Coordinate comprehensive meeting logistics including speaker selection and preparation, run-of-show creation, and day-of-event management
  • Orchestrate end-to-end event logistics for in-person and virtual experiences, including invitations, audience management, materials, and follow-up strategies
  • Negotiate and coordinate facility arrangements, technical support, and catering partnerships through cross-functional collaboration with IT, Office Services, and external vendors
  • Oversee registration delivery and visual presentation coordination to ensure professional excellence
  • Maintain dynamic event calendar and website content to drive internal engagement and cross-practice collaboration

Creative Execution

  • Manage creative and experiential components of assigned events (décor, event design, entertainment)
  • Proactively conceptualize and propose innovative event experiences that differentiate BLG's client engagement approach

Internal Collaboration

  • Collaborate with Partners, leadership, business development leads and key stakeholders to develop strategic event programming that capitalizes on market opportunities
  • Build strategic partnerships across BLG's national offices to share best practices and drive consistency
  • Foster collaborative relationships with Clients and Markets colleagues across all offices
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure seamless execution

Budget Administration

  • Develop and manage comprehensive event budgets ensuring optimal resource allocation and cost-effectiveness
  • Administer all aspects of event budgets including cost projections, payment processing, and reconciliation
  • Monitor financial performance against objectives to deliver measurable ROI

Industry Knowledge & Vendor Relationships

  • Maintain strong working knowledge of the event industry and emerging trends to inform strategic programming decisions
  • Cultivate and manage strategic vendor relationships while continuously expanding venue and supplier networks
  • Serve as subject matter expert on CASL compliance policies and regulatory requirements
  • Build relationships with peers in the legal industry and be knowledgeable about industry trends

Technology & Reporting

  • Leverage CRM systems proficiently for list management, audience segmentation, and comprehensive reporting
  • Track and analyze event metrics and ROI to inform strategic decision-making and continuous improvement
  • Generate comprehensive post-event analysis including attendance reports, budget summaries, and performance assessments
  • Maintain centralized event database for strategic planning and annual reporting

Key Competencies

  • Education: University degree or college diploma in marketing, business administration, communications, or event management; certification in special events, meeting planning (CPM), or project management (PMP) preferred

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of corporate event planning and management experience in large, complex organizations; professional services, law firm, or B2B experience strongly preferred with proven track record identifying, developing, and executing sophisticated events for senior executive audiences and demonstrated expertise in virtual event delivery and hybrid programming strategies

  • Technical Excellence: Advanced-level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, CRM and e-marketing system utilization (D365 preferred), virtual program development and webinar platforms (WebEx, Zoom, Teams) and experience with Co-Pilot, AI tools and other emerging technologies

  • Creative & Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to translate complex business objectives into differentiated event experiences with strategic mindset for leveraging events to achieve measurable business outcomes and creative problem-solving approach to deliver "best in class" programming

  • Project Management: Proven workflow management capabilities with ability to handle multiple time-sensitive priorities, process-driven organizational approach, and ability to adapt to changing requirements while delivering exceptional results under deadline pressure

  • Collaboration & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with ability to build relationships across all organizational levels, exceptional verbal, written, and communication capabilities paired with client service orientation and negotiation expertise, and work effectively in cross-functional team environments

  • Professional Attributes: Exceptional attention to detail encompassing writing, proofreading, and comprehensive quality control standards, proactive problem-solving approach with resourcefulness and initiative, strong discretion and confidentiality management, and adaptability with enthusiasm for continuous learning in evolving event technology landscape

  • Other: Bilingual (English, French) is an asset; Availability for overtime and flexibility to work in-office and onsite at events as determined by business requirements is required

The expected salary range for this position is $72,000 - $85,000, depending on level of experience, region/location, and other factors.
