Your Opportunity:

The Registered Nurse - Postpartum Community Services (RN PPCS) supports and empowers individuals and families in accepting responsibility for their own health throughout the postpartum period. The PPCS RN provide services for health promotion, prevention, protection, health maintenance and restoration. It also includes health assessment and screening, direct care, support, follow up and/or referral. The PPCS RN works in an independent role, with minimal supervision, to provide family centered care in client’s homes, clinic and community settings as well as by telephone. The PPCS RN works collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary health care team and community partners across the zone to facilitate the delivery of efficient, effective and integrated services to the client. This position also has the responsibility to participate in the education and orientation of nursing staff and students and to maintain ongoing professional competence. The PPCS RN has a leadership responsibility in primary health care inclusive of nursing best practice, collection and reporting of client-based data, involvement in nursing or other health research and completion of an accredited nursing education program. In addition, you will demonstrate decision making, problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills; interpersonal and communication skills; initiative and independence; time management and prioritization in a rapidly changing environment; patient teaching, advocacy and integrating principles of patient and family centred care into nursing care; ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with the interdisciplinary team; and to foster positive relationships in a team environment.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of PCA. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58/hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with PCA/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years’ experience within the last 5 years as a RN in postpartum maternal and infant care Or Experience working in Postpartum Community Services or Calgary Zone public health postpartum in the last 3 years. Demonstrated experience performing both maternal postpartum and newborn assessments. Experience with family/client teaching related to infant and maternal postpartum care. Experience with basic Microsoft Office, Teams/Zoom, keyboarding skills, electronic documentation. Proficient computer & keyboarding skills & ability to conduct contemporaneous electronic documentation at the point of care required. Work within patient homes that have no consistent ergonomic setup. Ability to bend, twist, kneel and respond safely & quickly to a variety of emergency situations. Independently perform the skills of a certified BLS provider. Comfortable to drive-in all-weather conditions Experience working with infants and mothers with complex medical needs. Experience assessing families for social risk factors. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language. Physically able to perform all duties in all practice settings (i.e. drive a car in all types of weather for long distances and lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb stairs, stand, squat, and sit for long periods). The role also requires use of personal protective equipment. Must be able to raise arms above head to appropriately don and doff PPE as well as lift equipment and supplies.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current IBCLC. Experience with NBS and serum bilirubin collections. Experience providing teaching related to infant and maternal care during the 2 month postpartum period. Knowledge of community resources related to vulnerable populations, poverty, mental health, domestic violence, addictions, parenting and child development. Experience using language line to support client care. Experience using Connect Care
