ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking highly dedicated and professional Home Support Worker to join our health and wellness team!

The Home Support Worker (HSW) provides and coordinates individualized care and resources to Elders so that they may continue to live in their homes and in the community. Support may include transportation, house cleaning, providing meals, and supporting other health and wellness related activities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures the housekeeping needs of the client are met and respected.
  • Ensures personal and spiritual needs of the client are respected.
  • Transports and/or escorts clients to medical appointments, and for personal banking, shopping, and social events.
  • Attends job-related workshops, seminars and conferences as requested to keep abreast of the developments or changes in Home Care.
  • Maintains safety procedures as required by FMFN.
  • Provides care and companionship for individuals and families during periods of incapacitation, convalescence or family disruption.
  • Plans and prepares meals adhering to any special diet requests.
  • Follows Health and Safety principles in delivering care to clients in the community, working effectively and cooperatively with others.
  • Housekeeping duties include but are not limited to:

Daily Chores:

  • Clean dishes, pots and pans, utensils and put away
  • Sweep or vacuum all floors including under all furniture
  • Wash floors in heavy traffic areas and other areas as needed
  • Wash and disinfect bathroom
  • Make beds
  • Empty garbage
  • Cook meals if required
  • Change water bottles if empty
  • Replace dirty towels with clean towels
  • Tidy up all areas

Weekly Chores:

  • Spot wash walls
  • Sweep and wash all floors
  • Change bedding
  • Launder bedding, clothes, towels, etc.
  • Dust all furniture
  • Clean all appliances; wash and wipe clean

Monthly Chores:

  • Wash windows

  • Wash light fixtures

  • Clean out cupboards and wash and wipe

  • Wash all walls at least once every six months

  • Wash and wipe all appliances; fridge, stove, washer/dryer (if applicable), microwave, toaster

  • Perform other job-related duties or training as required or directed by the Supervisor

KEY REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience in a First Nations community is a definite asset

  • Minimum of High School diploma / GED required

  • TDG and WHMIS certification

  • First Aid and C.P.R. certification

Fort McKay First Nation (FMFN), located along the banks of the Athabasca River in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo north of Fort McMurray. There are approximately 800 Dene, Cree and Métis community members living in Fort McKay. The FMFN shares a border with the Fort McKay Métis Community and together we call Fort McKay home.
