About the role
The Quality Manager is responsible for the Quality, Authenticity, Food Safety and Legality for all programs and practices for the facility. The individual supports and upholds all policies and procedures including safety, quality and regulatory requirements.

The Quality Manager will guide all words and actions with the principle "Do the Right Thing, Always."
Essential Job Functions:
Food Safety
- Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of all food safety (HACCP) programs
- Assess capital projects and other facility improvements for food safety criteria, supplier approval and/or feedback as applicable, up to and including prohibiting commissioning in the face of serious food safety deficiencies.
Quality Control
- Lead the quality effort in supporting the plant's initiatives to provide, high quality, legally compliant and safe food.
- Oversee Quality in all factions of the milling process from receiving to shipping.
- Participate and foster the Quality dept's frequent interactions in capturing best practices, solving problems and standardizing procedures.
- Develop, implement and record maintenance and updating of all food safety, food defense, pest control/sanitation, and regulatory programs.
Audits/Compliance
- Oversee the ongoing certification of GFSI schematic
- Organize and conduct quality audits of all types – organic, phytosanitary, BRCGS and Kosher
Customers
- In conjunction with the Grain Millers Sales team and senior management, determine appropriate specifications for customer's finished product needs.
- Ensure Customer specifications, items set up, labeling requirements and inspection records are properly maintained.
Leadership and Development
- Participate in production planning meetings with the managers and staff regarding quality assurance issues and work duties.
- Provide leadership, guidance, training and direction for the team in support of the plant's initiatives to provide high quality, legally compliant and safe food.
Corporate
- Work directly with the Corporate Director of Quality and Regulatory for the continuous improvement, support and direction to the Grain Millers Quality Programs.
- Participation in industry organizations (for instance, NAMA, CNMA, Cereals & Grains Association, ASQ, etc.) to foster learning and networking.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Food Science or related field
- Minimum 5 years supervisory experience in a food operation/manufacturing environment
- HACCP and PCQI certified highly preferred or the ability to secure this certification
- Statistical/Quality Engineering certification a plus
- Implementation/management of a GFSI system (BRCGS preferred)
- Understand the process within a milling facility, previous agriculture experience would be considered an asset.
- Previous experience in third party or customer audits
- Knowledge of all quality, food safety and sanitation functions including but not limited to; calibration systems, instrumentation methodology and maintenance, HACCP concepts, auditing, stability studies, technical report writing, GMP's.
Physical Demands :
- Activities include walking, kneeling, lifting, climbing ladders and stairs, bending, stacking, twisting, pulling, pushing, inserting, sitting, squatting, standing, accumulating and collating motions.
- Be able to handle 50lbs of material with assistance occasionally.
Hours of work:
A typical work day is Mon-Fri 8 hrs./day. Demands of the business may dictate a variance of workday starts and/or later finishes, weekend work as necessary, and occasional travel during off hours and weekends. As well, departmental business requires general accessibility by phone and / or email during off hours and weekends
