Location

This position is required to work in person at 3330 Harvester Road, Burlington, Ontario. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Supervisor of Fleet Services, this position’s duties will include diagnoses, repair, maintenance, inspection of vehicles, equipment, braking and fuel systems, electronic control systems, components and related on-board computers.

Responsibilities

This position will be responsible for:

  • Diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and inspecting cars, light and heavy trucks, construction and agriculture equipment, parks maintenance equipment, and ice re-surfacing equipment.
  • Referring to manuals, record files and computer-based applications to complete work.
  • Documenting all maintenance activities in a computerized work order system.
  • Welding and fabricating vehicles, equipment, and structures, including customized fabrication as required.
  • Providing instruction and training to operators on specialized equipment, and direction to either a mechanic’s apprentice and/or mechanic’s helper.

Requirements

You hold a 310T Mechanic’s certificate and have functional knowledge of all vehicles and equipment. Liquid Propane and Compressed Natural Gas Alternative Fuel Certificate would also be an asset.

To be successful in this role, you need initiative to analyze equipment problems along with strong communication and organization skills. You work well as part of a team and can provide training and direction to others.

The successful candidate must be able to work shifts and perform on call duties during the winter months.

A valid Class G driver’s licence is required with an acceptable driver’s abstract (no more than three (3) driving related convictions or an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire), and/or no administrative driver license (ADLS) suspensions.

Additional Information

Candidates will be required to demonstrate their qualifications by passing a written, oral and/or practical examination, as part of the recruitment process.

Salary/Hourly Range

$42.31 (without fuels) to $43.70 (with fuels). You will be paid 95% of the applicable rate for the first six months.
