Description
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), ECS is looking for a Research Specialist/Lab Technician in solid-state battery to join our team and perform laboratory experiments. This position will support the company by accelerating our battery research outcomes and conducting more advanced testing.
WHAT WE NEED YOU TO DO
- Enable the testing and development of novel battery cells to improve performance for initial use cases.
- Define novel methodologies to verify or validate different aspects of electrode and electrolyte preparation under the mentorship of more senior scientists.
- Drive innovation by generating novel ideas to advance scientific energy storage solutions.
- Identify and implement opportunities for product improvement within a defined research area.
- Contribute to on-time delivery of different research projects and translate development or scientific risks into a tangible research plan.
WHAT YOU BRING TO OUR TEAM
- Master’s degree in Materials Engineering (Material and Science), Chemistry, Electrochemistry or Physical Chemistry.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in electrode and electrolyte preparation.
- Knowledge of solid-state electrolyte materials.
- Experience with analytical instrumentation.
- Hands-on experience documenting experiments thoroughly and preparing technical reports.
- Excellent teamwork, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
- Strong understanding of fundamental concepts such as energy density, specific capacity, ionic conductivity, etc.
An exceptional candidate will bring:
- Expertise in solid-state batteries, lithium-based batteries, sodium-based batteries, and other advanced battery systems.
- Working experience operating laboratory equipment related to battery cells, including EIS, CV, and GCD.
- Ability to work independently, self-motivated, and adaptable to rapidly evolving projects.
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on practical solutions.
- Proven track record of innovation and patent generation preferred.
- Ability to move between lab and office.

Compensation:
The base annual salary range for this full-time role is between $73,000 to $118,000 CAD, plus stock options. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target range for new hire base salary. Actual compensation may vary outside of this range and is dependent on various factors including but not limited to a candidate’s qualifications including relevant education and training, competencies, experience, and business needs. Base pay is only part of the total compensation package. Full time roles are eligible for benefits. Base pay is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
