About the role
Some of what you will do:
This role is a critical part of managing the IT budgets for Staples Canada. The Financial Analyst will be responsible for managing and analyzing financial data, preparing reports, and providing insights to support decision-making processes within the company. The incumbent will act as the day-to-day finance resource for all IT programs & will work closely with all the IT Managers. They will be responsible for performing in depth analysis and presenting key findings and recommendations concerning areas of risk or saving opportunities.
Specifically, You Will:
Financial Budgeting (40%)
- Develop, monitor, and manage IT department budgets.
- Provide financial forecasts for IT projects, ensuring expenditures align with planned budgets.
- Track costs related to IT infrastructure, software, hardware, cloud services, and other technological investments.
- Create new budget tracking files and GL set up for new initiatives
- Participate in the annual budget planning process
- Work closely with IT project managers, IT Managers, and other stakeholders to understand department and project financials to ensure alignment with corporate financial objectives.
- Help IT teams understand the financial implications of their decisions and assist with resource allocation and prioritization. Support business leaders in aligning IT strategies with the overall financial goals of the organization.
Financial Reporting & Analysis (30%)
- Prepare regular financial reports related to IT spending, budget variances, and project financial health.
- Present financial insights to IT leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, highlighting key trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Analyze historical spending data to identify patterns and opportunities for cost control and efficiency.
- Submit Month End Accruals for all areas of IT
- Submit Month End Forecast for all IT channels to Finance.
- Month End GL Reconciliation
- Perform Adhoc analysis and reports as required, e.g. Quarterly or Year over Year comparison reports and special request reports etc.
Invoices & Payment (30%)

Ensure proper GL coding on invoices and ensure it applies to the right business.

Check all IT related invoices against the budget to ensure the planned spending

Manage IT invoices and payments and ensure it is charged to the correct business unit.

Prepare documents to set up new vendors and coordinate with account payable.

Manage Vendor enquires on payment status
Some of what you need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in financial analysis, accounting, or a related role.
- MS Excel - Intermediate user proficiency (pivot tables, v-lookups, graph creation).
- Proficiency in financial modeling, forecasting, and financial reporting.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- CPA, CFA, or other relevant certification is preferred or in progress.
- Strong financial acumen
- Good data management experience
- Excellent quantitative and analytic skills
- High proficiency in Excel
- High degree of comfort and aptitude for data manipulation & extraction
- Ability to draw deep insight from complex data & present key recommendations & findings
- Excellent Communication/Presentation Clear big picture thinker, problem solver and the ability to pay attention to details
