In Canada, CNOOC International has oil sands assets in Long Lake, located in northern Alberta just south of Fort McMurray, which is a SAGD and partial Upgrader operation with production capacity of 85,000 barrels of bitumen a day. We also have interest in several other oil sands projects, including Hangingstone, operated by Greenfire Resources Operating Corporation and Syncrude’s oil sands mining upgrading facility. In addition to our oil sands business, we have shale gas land in Northeast British Columbia, a power station in Balzac, Alberta, and interest in a wind farm in southern Alberta.Calgaryis our regional corporate office for all North America.
This is a 12-month contractor role based in**Calgary****, Alberta.**The successful candidates will be onboarded through a third-party contracting agency.
##Your Background
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Project Management, or related field.
- Minimum 5–10 years of experience in project controls, cost control, or scheduling— preferably within industrial or capital project environments.
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency with SAP, scheduling software (Primavera P6 or MS Project), and ERP systems.
- Experience supporting procurement or contract negotiations is an asset.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
##Your Role with Our Team
Cost Control & Financial Management
- Develop, maintain, and update project cost control structures, including budgets, forecasts, commitments, and expenditures.
- Track project actuals vs. budget, identify variances, and provide timely analysis and reporting to the Project Manager and leadership.
- Prepare monthly cost reports and summaries.
- Track and review change orders, contract status and values.
- Support change management by assessing cost impacts of scope changes, trends, and risks.
- Ensure cost coding accuracy and alignment with corporate financial systems.
- Maintain cost databases and support benchmarking for future capital projects.
Schedule Management
- Support development of the master project schedule in collaboration with Project Management and Engineering.
- Monitor schedule progress against baseline, identify deviations, and highlight potential delays or risks.
- Coordinate with contractors and internal stakeholders to update schedule inputs and verify accuracy.
- Prepare regular schedule status reports, performance metrics, and critical path updates.
Supply Chain & Procurement Support
- Work closely with Supply Chain to support purchasing, contracting, and negotiation activities for services, equipment, and materials.
- Provide cost analysis and benchmarking to support competitive bidding and commercial evaluations.
- Monitor vendor and subcontractor performance in relation to budget, schedule, and contractual obligations.
