Job description
In this role, you will have the opportunity to oversee the Metallurgical Lab and lead a dedicated team. This role blends technical expertise with supportive leadership, and you’ll play a key role in aligning day to day activities with broader strategic goals. What you’ll accomplish:
- Provide direct supervision of Metallurgists and Metallurgical Technicians, and take ownership of the Metallurgical Lab
- Provide leadership by example and mentoring to the Metallurgy team, including timely performance feedback on short term tasks, objectives and behaviours
- Provide technical support/context to all Mill departments (Operations, Maintenance, Safety, Environment etc.) in an expedient and sustainable manner
- Assist with planning, scheduling and coordination of Metallurgy personnel and resources
- Fill in as primary department representative and point of contact when Technical Superintendent is not on site
- Take ownership of key projects within the department
- Help co-ordinate activities, information, materials or resources within the team to meet deadlines related to routine activities and annual objectives
- Contribute to technical discussions and idea-sharing with R&D
- Ensure cross-checks are completed as related to routine reporting, taking lead in validation of monthly reporting and preparation of monthly management slides
- Review reports and trends of mill performance and reagent consumption and propose areas for improvement
- Attend operational and leadership meetings, ensure consistent message heard across both shifts
- Provide input to the annual budgeting process, including identification of infrastructure and training which aligns with group objectives and personal development goals
- Actively demonstrate a commitment to Safety and Environmental stewardship
- Comply with all Orano health, safety, environmental and ethics policies, practices and procedures
- Other duties as assigned by Technical Superintendent
Work Location & Schedule:
- McClean Lake site
- 14 days in and 14 days out rotating schedule
- Normally an 11 hour work day, although some activity outside or normal working hours may be required

Ideal qualifications
Qualifications and skills we’re seeking:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Metallurgical Engineering and eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGS
- A minimum of 8 years industry experience, preferably within both operational and engineering environments
- Proficient in the conventional unit processes in mineral processing and hydrometallurgy
- Uranium ore processing experience is an asset
- Experience in project management will be an asset
- Comfortable working in an industrial plant and laboratory environment
- Ability to provide a positive leadership style and engage resources at all levels of the organization
- Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proficient in working with Microsoft Office suite of products and ability to learn other applications as required
- Working knowledge of the process data system SQL/Access and OSIsoft PI
- Ability to foster and maintain good working relationships with other departments within the company
- Ability to lead and interact in a team environment, as well as working independently
- Ability to innovate in the areas of uranium processing with a focus on plant efficiency, capital and operating cost optimization and compliance to environmental regulations
- Working knowledge of risk assessment (HAZID/HAZOP) will be an asset
This position is subject to pre-employment checks including education and criminal record verification.
Drug and alcohol substance testing is a requirement for all safety sensitive positions at Orano Canada.
