Position Summary

Are you detail-oriented, professional, and passionate about creating fair and supportive learning environments? We are seeking dedicated Exam Invigilators to join our team and help ensure students with disabilities receive the accommodations they need to succeed. In this role, you will administer and oversee exams while ensuring all approved accommodations are delivered accurately and respectfully. The incumbent is present to create an accessible and supportive exam environment, while also managing physical assets and safeguarding sensitive information.

Your responsibilities will include providing direct support to students by reading exam questions aloud, transcribing dictated answers, and giving oral instructions, as well as maintaining exam security through identity verification, monitoring the exam, and reporting any irregularities or breaches of policy. You will ensure the integrity of the exam environment, ensuring that required equipment is available in working order and no unauthorized materials or devices are present. Beyond upholding the integrity of the exam process, you will play an important role in fostering a calm, respectful, and supportive environment by addressing student concerns, mediating anxieties, and ensuring accessibility needs are consistently met in collaboration with the Disability Services team.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • High school diploma required; higher education degree in social sciences preferred;

  • Prior experience in exam administration, disability services, or education;

  • Proficiency in reading clearly and accurately, and legible handwriting for scribing;

  • Understanding of accessibility tools and assistive technologies;

  • Strong commitment to inclusivity and equal access to education for all students;

  • Excellent communication skills, with sensitivity and patience when interacting with students with disabilities;

  • Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and ensure smooth exam administration;

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards;

  • Basic understanding of disabilities and accommodations;

  • Availability during exam periods, which may include occasional weekends or evenings;

  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver’s licence and a vehicle for travel, or other approved method of transport to and from the JIBC and exam sites.

  • Ability to travel to other JIBC campuses in the Lower Mainland (Chilliwack, Maple Ridge) is a plus.

What JIBC Offers:

We offer compensation in lieu of benefits and vacation for the duration of this casual role.

Salary Range:

$27.66 per hour (with wage increments to a max of $29.53 per hour). Salary and wage increments are in accordance with the Collective Agreement. (BCGEU Pay Grid 9)

Work Arrangements:

This position is at our New Westminster, BC campus. Candidates must be within a commutable distance to the campus. This is a casual, part-time role (various hours as per operational needs).
