- Proficiency in at least one high‑level language—Python preferred; .NET/C# or JavaScript also valued
- Hands‑on experience building and operating services on AWS and/or Azure; familiarity with GCP and/or Oracle Cloud is a plus
- Practical expertise with CI/CD (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps), infrastructure as code (Terraform/CloudFormation/Bicep), containers (Docker), and orchestration (Kubernetes)
- Solid grasp of SDLC and agile/lean practices (Scrum/Kanban), automated testing, release engineering, and version control with Git
- Demonstrated secure‑by‑design and automation‑by‑design mindset; excellent written and verbal communication across audiences and time zones
- Operating mission‑critical platforms at scale with clear SLOs and on‑call ownership
- Database design and performance tuning (SQL/NoSQL); query optimization
- Observability stacks (Prometheus/Grafana, OpenTelemetry, ELK, Datadog) and incident tooling
- Experience leading modernization efforts (containerization, platform consolidation, or CI/CD redesign)
- Familiarity with ITIL practices integrated with SRE ways of working
What the job involves
- Ready to shape the platforms that power trusted intelligence at Thomson Reuters? Join Platform Engineering to build and operate the secure, reliable, and scalable foundations that product teams use to deliver customer value
- Our remit spans multi‑cloud infrastructure, CI/CD and developer experience, internal platform services, and targeted full‑stack solutions. We partner closely with product, security, and operations, and we eliminate manual toil through automation and great engineering
- In this role, you'll lead a globally distributed team while also contributing directly to technical strategy, design reviews, and—when needed—code, prototypes, and incident response
- Your team owns core platform capabilities, contributes to full‑stack services, and tackles the kind of ambiguous, ad‑hoc projects that unblock the business
- Recruit, hire, onboard, and develop a diverse team; establish clear career paths and growth plans
- Run effective 1:1s and performance cycles; set goals, provide actionable feedback, and address performance issues promptly
- Build a psychologically safe, inclusive culture of ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning
- Coach engineers on architecture, operational excellence, and influencing without authority
- Own availability, functionality, security, and cost for platforms and applications your team builds and runs
- Define and track SLOs/SLIs/KPIs (e.g., deployment frequency, lead time for change, MTTR, change failure rate, cost per service)
- Establish on‑call, incident response, and post‑incident learning practices aligned to SRE and ITIL principles
- Maintain clear runbooks, roadmaps, and operational readiness for all owned services
- Set technical strategy; champion secure‑ and automation‑by‑design
- Lead design reviews; enforce coding standards, testing strategies, documentation quality, and change management
- Guide cloud‑native architectures using managed services, containers/orchestration, and infrastructure as code
- Contribute hands‑on where needed (design spikes, complex reviews, PRs, incident command/coordination)
- Turn ambiguous, cross‑functional asks into clear roadmaps with milestones, resources, and measurable outcomes
- Communicate progress, risks, and trade‑offs to senior leaders and partner teams with crisp, data‑driven updates
- Balance planned work with interrupts/ad‑hoc requests via transparent intake and capacity planning
- Collaborate across time zones; optimize for follow‑the‑sun execution
- Evolve pipelines, environments, and release practices to improve velocity and reliability (e.g., automated quality gates, progressive delivery)
- Reduce toil via self‑service platform capabilities and well‑designed APIs and templates
- Promote test‑driven development, trunk‑based development, and repeatable build/release processes
- Embed threat modeling, least‑privilege, and secrets hygiene; ensure compliance with relevant controls/audits
- Drive observability (metrics, logs, traces) and resiliency patterns; lead capacity and cost optimization
- Standardize baselines and guardrails across clouds and environments
Benefits
- Global careers
- Flexibility
- Work that matters
- Employee appreciation & recognition
- 2 paid volunteer days
- Learning and development
- Parental leave
