-**Career Education & Professional Development:**empowering students to grow their skills and confidence with personalized career advising, resume and interview coaching, and small-group learning opportunities, while providing ongoing support as students prepare for, secure, and succeed in their co-op experiences.
-**Student Engagement & Co-Curricular Experience:**helping students build skills and grow professionally by engaging in clubs, teams, competitions, conferences, community initiatives, and networking events. The Team Lead, Career Educator role sits within the Career Education & Professional Development team.
About the Position
The Team Lead, Career Education provides operational and programmatic leadership across the department including oversight and escalation of student issues, development and facilitation of staff training, reporting on career development activities to support decision-making on programming, resources and engagement strategies, and management of team schedules and standards of practice.
In addition, the Team Lead, Career Education will deliver career education curriculum, services and supports to a combination of non-co-op undergraduate and graduate level students in both individual and group formats.
Job Summary
Student Escalations
- Manage student issues, escalations and sensitive matters related to health, safety, wellness, risk and program sequencing in relation to work-integrated learning experiences; following stated protocols and manager-approved triage processes, applying problem resolution and guidance to team members, liaising with colleagues across the department, Faculty and University where necessary, and reviewing cases with management as needed for support and decision-making.
- Develop and maintain internal manuals, handbooks and training guides on an annual basis in line with policy/process changes and/or updates.
- Oversee the administration, processing and approval of student petitions and special requests/accommodations related to work-integrated learning programming.
Professional Practice & Team Development:
- Develop and deliver learning programming and internal communities of practice to support implementation of new processes and creation of best practices in alignment with career development principles and career curriculum programming.
- Develop and deliver staff training for all new career education staff; developing materials, creating role-specific learning plans and customizing learning goals/priorities based on individual employee development needs.
- Develop and maintain training manuals/documentation for all career education roles.
- Research and recommend systems, tools, workflows and processes to improve service delivery to students and/or enhance operational efficiencies for career education team members.
- Act as the main point of contact for third-party vendors and lead/coordinate the review of prospective systems and/or tools that align with the needs of the department’s core business.
Student Support & Career Education:
- Develop and deliver career education programming and services to a combination of non-co-op undergraduate and graduate level students across all degree programs.
- Provide individual and group support in the form of career appointments, workshops/courses and events.May be asked to perform the duties of a Career Educator at time, as required.
Operations Management:
- Prepare, analyze and present term-based reporting and data on appointment participation, workshop engagement and work term activities (i.e. check-ins, reflections, evaluations), etc. to identify trends, address potential gaps, and drive decisions regarding programming, resourcing and engagement strategies.
- Manage and communicate adjustments to staff scheduling for planned and unplanned absences, staffing transitions and portfolio changes.
- Implement and manage standards of practice for student communication and engagement activities including key timelines, message templates and activity calendars.
- Lead and/or co-facilitate team meetings and act as key spokesperson for the delivery and operational oversight of critical updates/information on key topics/issues.
Supervision
- Provides lead hand supervision and directs the activities of 12 full-time continuing employees.
Qualification
- University or College Degree in a related field and/or equivalent experience
- Professional credential such as CHRL, CCDP or other designation relevant to career, human services or adult education
- 5-7 years of relevant experience working in career services, adult education, and/or supporting a student population ideally in a post secondary environment.
Skills
- Ability to analyze complex student issues and effectively problem solve leveraging the appropriate supports to resolve the situation.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work at all levels of the institution from faculty to other student support services.
- Experienced at developing and delivering learning content and programming to adult learners using a variety of methodologies and mediums leveraging strong facilitation skills.
- Analytical skills with the ability to evaluate systems, tools and workflows to enhance processes and protocols and create efficiencies.
- Proficiency using tools such as Excel, Google Analytics and other reporting systems to analyze data.
- Experience using Orbis (i.e OSCARplus) system/technology considered an asset.
Assets
- Experience in the delivery of co-operative education and work-integrated learning preferred.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience in project and/or change management.
- Previous experience leading cross-functional projects/initiatives.
- Experience in designing and developing programming and/or processes.
- Demonstrates knowledge of career development theories and their application in coaching and student advisement contexts.
Additional Information
NOTE: Flexibility is required to work occasional evenings, weekends, and extended hours to meet the demands of the position. This role is hybrid with an anticipated schedule of two days a week on-campus, subject to change based on operational need and service delivery.
