Department Information

The mandate of the Department of Environment and Climate Change is to manage land, water, air, wildlife, and forests. This includes promoting, planning, and supporting the wise and sustainable use of natural resources, and protecting, restoring, and stewarding the environment for the social and economic benefit of all Northwest Territories residents.

Job Information

Located in Inuvik and reporting directly to the Superintendent, Land and Water, Beaufort Delta Region, the position supports the management and administration of public lands in by enforcing acts and regulations, authorizations, policies, guidelines and procedures to ensure regulatory requirements are met related to resource management issues for the Beaufort Delta Region. The position regularly interacts with Lands divisions, other government agencies, resource management boards, industry, Independent Environmental Monitoring Agency, Environmental Monitoring Advisory Board, Aboriginal governments, special interest groups and the public.

This position works within a legislative framework which includes the Commissioner's Land Act and Regulations, Northwest Territories Lands Act and Regulations, Territorial Quarrying
Regulations, Area Development Act and Regulations, and Mackenzie Valley Resource Management Act. It also works in a Cabinet approved policy framework by administering the Land Pricing
Policy, the Land Lease Only Policy, the Municipal Lands Policy, and the Recreational Leasing management Framework.

Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:
Completion of a related Bachelor's degree and 3 years of related experience, including 1 year of supervisory experience, and experience in safety, firearms and evidence collection and presentation.

Equivalencies may include but are not limited to:
Two Year Diploma in a Natural Resources Program and 5 years related experience

Additional Requirements:
Produce a medical clearance to confirm fitness to perform physical requirements of the position.
A Boating License and a Firearms Acquisition Certificate are required within 6 months of hire
