The St. John's Port Authority (SJPA) plays a central role in both the day-to-day marine operations of the port and in planning its future.
Position Details:
Position: Casual Security Officers
Site: St. John's Port Authority
Hours: Casual - As needed
Payrate: $ 20.00/hour
Posting Date: May 7, 2026
External Closing Date: May 30, 2026
Schedule Example: Continental Rotation
Key responsibilities:
- Based on specific site posting, log and report all incidents reported by SJPA staff or visitors
- Patrol interior and exterior of facility preventing unauthorized entry; in a composed manner direct individuals initiating disruption to leave the premises
- While on patrol, monitor risks such as unlocked doors, blocked entrances and exits, mechanical issues, hazardous material and additional breaches of security
- Respond to alarms and emergency calls for assistance. Monitoring situations, cameras, property and events
- Communicate in a truthful and receptive manner under all circumstances as well as provide information regarding the facility as requested by personnel
- Sustain effective relationships with key managers and visitors through courteous and respectful relations perceived from their viewpoint
- Monitor and screen visitors and clients in a professional manner in order to grant access to the facility
- Access control to monitor, record and submit written reports of the arrival of all vessels in each respective zone including arrival/departure time and berth location
Prerequisites:
- Clear criminal record check and vulnerable sector check
- MTSC (Marine Transportation Security Clearance)
- Valid First Aid & CPR - Level C (from a CSA-approved vendor)
- Valid class 5 Driver License & a clean Driver's Abstract
- Must have a Work History in Canada for 5 years
- English (oral and written) fluency is a must
- Previous experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field preferred.
- Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
- Applicants lacking these certifications can opt into Paladin's UoF/MOAB training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position
- Please be aware: The UoF/MOAB training is not paid as it is a pre-requisite; however, Paladin will cover all of the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability
