Communications Specialist Full time permanent Ottawa, Ontario Canada 1 vacancy Hybrid role The Medical Council of Canada is looking for a Communications Specialist to join our External Relations and Communications (ER&C) team. You will work closely with colleagues across the organization to turn ideas into clear, compelling messages, and will bring stories, initiatives, and strategies to life. Reporting to the Manager, Communications and Marketing, you will help build strong internal relationships, coordinate the creation of communications materials, and craft high-quality content for both internal and external audiences.
What You’ll Do
- Partner with interested parties to develop internal and external communications plans
- Work with internal and external partners to identify and develop items of interest for employees, also developing and implementing related tactical plans
- Oversee internal communications vehicles, including employee town halls, meetings, internal newsletters, news posts, MCC intranet, and internal signage
- Measure and monitor internal and external communications outcomes, gathering metrics, and adjusting plans/strategies accordingly
- Work with People and Culture on building strong employer branding
- Work with internal project teams to develop communication strategies, tactics, and plans for reaching external audiences and increasing awareness of MCC activities
- Advise internal clients on communication best practices
- Create engaging content, including news articles, email blasts, notes for internal and external audiences.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to produce, review and post updates to content for the web, intranet, and social media, ensuring these adhere to the MCC style guide
- Work with external media production teams to conceive of and create videos and other materials as required
Experience What you need to succeed
- 3-5 years of communications experience with a proven understanding of internal and external communications practices
- Experience developing internal communication strategies and implementing tactics to help maintain and strengthen organizational culture
- Experience managing and administering intranets
- Experience with SharePoint platforms and workflow developments is an asset
- Experience organizing and executing video projects is an asset
Technical Skills
- Familiarity with media relations and public relations best practices
- Knowledge of information technology and proficiency in the use of relevant computer-based tools, including: Camtasia: Video editing/screen casting software, WordPress (an asset), SharePoint, Social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube), Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OptiSign (an asset)

- Strong communication and client relationship management skills
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and work under pressure
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Proven team player with strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field
- Training in digital communications, AI tools would be considered an asset
Language
- Advanced English communication skills (oral and written) are required, along with proficient oral and written skills in French.
