About The Role

Reports to the Director of Drafting & Technical Support on all matters. The Internal Engineering Manager is responsible for providing technical leadership, internal engineering review, and feasibility assessment of facade system designs prior to submission to the external Engineer of Record for stamping. This role ensures structural integrity, constructability, and compatibility with manufacturing and installation constraints, while proactively identifying and mitigating engineering risks to reduce external review comments and redesign cycles. This role serves as the primary internal technical authority and coordination point between design, manufacturing, project teams, and the Engineer of Record. The Internal Engineering Manager does not produce stamped drawings.

Duties are responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

Technical Leadership & Review:

  • Lead internal engineering reviews of facade system designs to confirm structural feasibility, performance, and code intent prior to EOR submission
  • Windload analysis and/or evaluation of wind load studies by 3rd parties.
  • Strength and stiffness of system components
  • Analysis of anchors, embeds and fasteners
  • Perform load calculations for window systems, curtain wall components, railing systems and miscellaneous metals for validation of design assumptions.
  • Develop and review load calculations, member sizing, anchorage concepts, and connection feasibility.
  • Review design concepts and detailed shop drawings for engineering completeness and constructability.
  • Identify technical risks, inconsistencies, and design gaps early and develop mitigation strategies to minimize EOR comments and revisions.
  • Provides internal structural review of shop drawings against project specifications and applicable codes and provides feedback and advises drafting on structural information as required
  • Evaluate, as required, system mock-ups for structural behaviour against performance

Coordination:

  • Serve as the primary internal "technical" liaison with the external Engineer of Record, aligning design intent, assumptions, and engineering approach
  • Coordinate engineering input across design, manufacturing, procurement, and project execution teams
  • Support project teams by providing timely technical guidance and resolution of engineering-related issues
  • Attend sites as require to provide technical structural support

Management & Process Improvement

  • Provide technical oversight, mentoring, and guidance to internal drafting and design staff
  • Establish and maintain internal calculation standards, design guides and review procedures
  • Develop and maintain as necessary, automated calculation worksheets for analysis and design of different system components, continuous beam analysis and anchor systems as required to facilitate routine and repetitive functions
  • Support continuous improvement in engineering, efficiency, quality and risk management.
  • Any other tasks as assigned by the Director of Drafting & Technical Support

Requirements & Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering;
  • Professional Engineer license preferred

Years of Experience

  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in facade engineering and building envelope systems

Manager Level

  • Strong understanding of facade systems, structural behaviour, materials and applicable building codes
  • Demonstrated ability to review, validate and troubleshoot engineering calculations and details.
  • Proven experience coordinating with External Engineers of Record and multidisciplinary project teams
  • Detail oriented with the ability to read construction drawings (architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical and interior design)
  • Encompasses leadership skills;
  • Fully understand and apply NBC, OBC, CSA,NAFS standards as they related to State's scope of work

Work Location

  • On-Site
  • Occasional site visits require wearing PPE and in certain other locations, may involve some exposure to hazards or physical risks that require knowledge of and adherence to basic safety procedures and precautions;
  • Flexible working overtime as required
