Director, Information Technology and Data Management
About the role
Position Summary
The Director of Information Technology and Data Management is responsible for leading and modernizing NFL-BFL’s business processes through the strategic adoption of innovative and emerging digital solutions. This role provides enterprise-level leadership to ensure technology and data capabilities effectively support the organization’s mandate as a key marine transportation provider in the Maritimes.
The Director is a forward-thinking leader who balances strategic vision with operational delivery. They champion digital transformation, foster innovation, strengthen governance and cybersecurity resilience, and enable effective customer service delivery while ensuring business continuity, regulatory compliance, and data protection. The role is expected to exemplify high performance, collaboration, and alignment with NFL-BFL’s corporate values.
Key Accountabilities:
Strategy, Leadership & Governance

Lead the development and execution of integrated Information Technology and Data Management strategies aligned with NFL-BFL’s Corporate Plan
-
Develop and implement an overarching 5 year strategic/tactical plan to overhaul, modernize, and transform the IT department to meet the emerging needs of NFL and BFL for both today and the future.

Act as a strategic leader driving innovation, digital transformation, and modernization across the organization, including AI
-
Lead, manage, and serve as the organizational subject matter expert on cybersecurity, including cyber risk management, threat response, security architecture, and ensuring the protection of NFLBFL’s critical information and technology assets.

Lead organization-wide data protection and privacy programs, in conjunction with Director Corporate Services.
-
Prevent, detect and recover/respond to cyber security threats and breaches.
-
Serve as a member of the senior management team, providing leadership, mentorship, and support that fosters a cohesive, high-performing IT/DM department.

Operate as a corporate leader beyond departmental boundaries, consistently prioritizing organizational objectives and corporate values.

Establish and maintain an effective IT/DM governance and operating model, including goals and measures/metrics.

Protect NFL-BFL’s information and technology assets recognizing its role as national critical infrastructure, including asset replacement programming
-
Lead organization-wide data protection and privacy programs.
-
Manage IT and Data Management related enterprise risk.
-
Allocate resources effectively, succession planning
-
Support Corporate Planning, develop 5-year IT/DM plan and program
-
Advise the Executive Team current issues, trends and potential operational opportunities and efficiencies, as well as metric reporting
-
Manage IT /DM vendor contracts, full life cycle vendor relationships.

Perform related duties as required.
Methods and Practices
The Director, IT accesses external methods and practices such as COBIT, ISACA. ISO, and NIST to gain knowledge on IT best practices. The Director, IT improves IT function performance by documenting practices, learning from their practical use, and continuously improving execution.
Stakeholder Relations

Build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.

Develop partnerships with internal and external entities.

Represent the department on corporate committees.

Act as an external subject matter expert.

Foster cross-organizational collaboration.
Policies, Risk & Compliance
-
Ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and regulations relating to cybersecurity, information management and privacy across all services and jurisdictions
-
Lead the development of departmental policies, standards, and procedures.
-
Develop, manage, respond to IT/DM Risk Assessments.
Financial Management
-
Prepare and manage annual operating and capital budgets.
-
Review monthly financial reports and variances.
-
Ensure compliance with procurement policies.
Qualifications
-
University degree in a relevant field.
-
Minimum 7 years senior management experience and 10 years total experience.
-
MBA considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience
-
IT operations management expertise.
-
Risk-based cybersecurity leadership.
-
Vendor and contract management skills.
-
Strong documentation and communication skills.
Working Conditions
