Qualifications
MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- A PharmD or a BSc (Pharm) with appropriate professional pharmacy experience.
- Must have the qualifications to be eligible for practice licensure in the Province of Manitoba.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience working as a professional pharmacist.
- Project management skills will be an asset.
- Previous experience managing staff.
- Previous experience precepting healthcare students.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Experience in program development and implementation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaborative skills, to enable working with students, faculty, staff and preceptors.
- Knowledge of pharmacy practice in Manitoba.
- Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.
- Must have the ability to work as part of a team and independently.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Personal Health Information Act (PHIA) and privacy training.
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
OTHER JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Be highly self-motivated and seeking continuous improvement over the processes and tasks managed.
Key responsibilities
- Responsible for the vision and execution of the Experiential Education program and ensure that this is aligned with the Strategic direction of the College of Pharmacy, the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences, and the University.
- Supervise staff in the Experiential Education office, including participating in the recruitment, hiring, and performance management in consultation with the Dean and the Administrative Services Manager.
- Assure delivery of Introductory and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs and APPEs, respectively) in a manner that is consistent with the mission of the College of Pharmacy and that meets and aims to exceed the standards established by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP).
- Manage the quality assurance and quality improvement activities associated with the experiential education component of the curriculum including accreditation requirements.
- Assure the existence of Affiliation Agreements with experiential sites in a manner that is consistent with the College, Faculty, and University policy.
- Assure the availability, appropriate orientation and continued development of an appropriate mix of qualified preceptors.
- Identify, procure, develop, and maintain sufficient experiential sites for IPPE, IPE, and APPE rotations.
- Maintain an effective program for recognizing sites and preceptors for the educational support rendered to the College of Pharmacy and its students (i.e. site certificates, Preceptor and/or Site awards).
- Chair the Experiential Education Advisory Committee.
- Represent Experiential Education on the College of Pharmacy Program Evaluation Committee.
- Establish and lead strategic planning initiatives for the Experiential Education program that is aligned with the College of Pharmacy plans.
- Liaise with members of the pharmacy regulatory authority, directors of experiential education across Canada, provincial pharmacy leaders (within Manitoba's five health regions), community and primary care settings, to collaborate in program innovations, advancement and in research.
- Maintain the continuous quality Improvement and quality assurance including coordination of site visits, program evaluation, surveys ensuring high- quality preceptors and experiential sites and compliance with accreditation standards related to experiential education.
- Provide oversight for designing IPPE and APPE curriculum and assessment (liaising with Curriculum and Assessment committee), lead curriculum mapping and subsequent evaluation of the experiential program.
- Create opportunities for inclusion of Indigenous content enhancement within the program.
- Assigns workload of Experiential Education Facilitators.
- Ensure that experiential education meets or exceeds AFPC educational outcomes.
- Responsible for reporting on experiential education for accreditation purposes.
- Work with the Chair of the Program Evaluation & Accreditation Committee (PEAC) and the Associate Dean Academic to review outcomes data and refines the experiential curriculum to address identified needs.
- Ensure that the Office of Experiential Education is in compliance with all privacy and other relevant laws and policies.
- Ensure faculty and staff in the Office receive the appropriate training in the areas of student accommodations, privacy, Respectful Work and Learning Environment, Equity, diversity and inclusion and anti-racism policies, etc.
- In collaboration with the Coordinator of Experiential Education and the Associate Dean, Academic, contribute in an advisory capacity to the remediation of students in difficulty in experiential education.
- Oversee student preparation for experiential education, along with the coordinator.
- Provide input and guidance on issues relating to experiential education to faculty committees.
- Represent the College of Pharmacy to external stakeholders including. preceptors, pharmacy organizations, and CPhM.
- May be required to perform related duties not exceeding skills and capabilities as required.
