Job Summary
Under the supervision of an Information Technology Coordinator, this position analyses, implements, supports, and administers corporate data models and reporting, as well as business intelligences solutions. It also ensures that data and reporting governance policies are implemented as designed.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in designing data models, structures, and plans to meet the City’s current and long-term data requirements.
- Consult with departments to determine data and reporting needs, and present recommendations to address those needs.
- Develop and implement data analysis strategies that align with City’s goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with departments to understand their data needs and provide insights that drive better business decisions.
- Assist in establishing a process for identifying and resolving data issues across the City.
- Help develop and support a corporate reporting intake and request process within the City.
- Modernize and improve processes by collaborating with Data Stewards and Owners to enhance decision-making through reporting and business intelligence (BI) tools.
- Evaluates resource use and performance, and make recommendations regarding future data and BI needs.
- Assist in capacity planning and analysis of future data and BI needs.
- Responds to, and resolves, system and production support issues as required.
- Supervises and trains staff as assigned.
- Perform project roles as assigned.
- Prepares proposals and recommendations for management actions.
- Assists with the development and implementation of computing services and data policies, procedures and standards.
- Maintains knowledge of advancements as they pertain to current and future departmental and corporate IT and data requirements.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience Requirements
- Degree in computational science, or related discipline plus six years’ data experience, including two years’ experience as a Programmer Analyst III in Data Intelligence OR successful completion of a recognized two-year, post-secondary computer science program, plus eight years' experience in data, two years’ experience as a Programmer Analyst III in Data Intelligence.
- For the purpose of this posting Data Intelligence must involve 2 years’ current experience in the following areas:
- Data Design and modelling
- Data pipelines and ETL processes
- Business Intelligence and reporting (including MS Power BI)
- Predictive analytics
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Knowledge of data modelling techniques and systems.
- Experience with reporting and business intelligence (BI) tools, including MS Power BI
- Knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, other ODBC database management systems and MSMQ.
- Knowledge of Information Technology best practices related to service delivery and operational support.
- Knowledge of project management tools and techniques and the ability to participate in all project roles.
- Knowledge of the corporate organization, interdepartmental relationships and the relevant policies, practices and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including preparing and conducting presentations.
- Ability to plan, direct and coordinate assigned staff.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
Requires Security Check
Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) upon offer of employment.
Additional Requirements
- Call-back, shift work and overtime may be required.
- Stand-by is mandatory for designated employees when required. The employee must report to work immediately and be fit for duty.
Weekly Hours: 36.67
Salary Range: $96,390.48 to $104,600.64 CAD per annum (2025 rates)
