About the role

A career at Horizon is for those who want to do something extraordinary, yet with meaningful purpose. We take pride in pushing the boundaries of technology and customer experience to deliver something that has never been done before. We are a fast-moving organization that promotes a hands-on approach, supporting each other through the tough spots, generating a close-knit team with a family feel.

What we do here is hard, but then very few things worth achieving are easy. By joining Horizon, you will have the opportunity to work with our world-class entrepreneurial team who are passionate about delivering something special.

About Your Future Team

Horizon is seeking an open, enthusiastic, experienced Propulsion Aircraft Maintenance Engineer. As part of the team, you will tackle challenges and deliver something that has never been done before.

As a Senior Propulsion Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME), you will be responsible for the maintenance, inspection, and certification of propulsion systems on Horizon Aircraft’s prototype and production aircraft. This includes both the conventional turbine elements of the hybrid-electric powerplant and the electric motor and rotor drive systems unique to the Cavorite X7 platform.

Your Day- To-Day

Perform maintenance, inspection, and certification of all propulsion system components including turbine/piston engines, electric motors, gearboxes, rotor assemblies, fuel systems, and cooling systems. Sign off on maintenance releases and complete required regulatory documentation in accordance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs). Troubleshoot propulsion system faults — mechanical, thermal, and integration-related — using engine manuals, diagnostic equipment, and test data. Support propulsion system installation, rigging, run-up testing, and ground validation activities. Review and contribute to propulsion-related sections of the Aircraft Maintenance Manual (AMM), task cards, and airworthiness limitation documents. Collaborate with propulsion engineers and test teams on first-flight readiness, engine health monitoring, and post-flight inspections. Participate in Transport Canada airworthiness compliance activities, including conformity inspections and engine installation substantiation. Develop and implement borescope inspection, oil analysis, and trend monitoring programs for novel hybrid propulsion components. Mentor junior AMEs and provide day-to-day technical leadership on the floor. Champion safety and airworthiness culture across all maintenance and test activities.

Required

Your Profile:

Valid Transport Canada AME licence (M1, M2, or E category with turbine or piston engine endorsements). Minimum 7 years of aircraft propulsion maintenance experience on turbine or piston-engine aircraft. Strong knowledge of engine systems, fuel systems, lubrication, ignition, and exhaust — from a maintenance and airworthiness perspective. Familiarity with CAR 571/573 and engine maintenance/overhaul documentation standards. Experience with engine run-up procedures, power assurance checks, and troubleshooting from test data. Ability to read and interpret component maintenance manuals, IPC, and engineering drawings. Strong attention to detail and a disciplined approach to technical record-keeping.

Preferred

Experience on developmental, experimental, or prototype aircraft programs. Exposure to electric motor maintenance or hybrid-electric propulsion systems. Familiarity with eVTOL or distributed electric propulsion architectures. Experience with rotor or propeller systems (fixed or variable pitch). Exposure to TC type certification or Special Airworthiness Certificate (SAMC) processes. Turbine engine overhaul or hot section inspection background.
