About the role

The Financial and Consumer Services Commission (Commission) is a leader in integrated financial and consumer services regulation. The Commission’s mandate is to protect consumers and enhance public confidence in the financial and consumer marketplace through the provision of regulatory and educational services. With offices in both Fredericton and Saint John, it is responsible for the administration and enforcement of provincial legislation regulating mortgage brokers, payday lenders, real estate, securities, insurance, pensions, credit unions, trust and loan companies, cooperatives, unclaimed property, and a wide range of consumer legislation. The Commission is a self funded Crown corporation responsible for the administration and enforcement of financial consumer services legislation.

Senior Securities Analyst – Securities Division (Saint John Office)

 

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced accounting professional to join our team as a Senior Securities Analyst within the Securities Division.

In this unique accounting role, you will serve as a subject matter expert in corporate finance, leading in-depth reviews and analysis of prospectus and continuous disclosure filings from New Brunswick reporting issuers. Your work will help ensure filings meet the standard of full, true, and plain disclosure, supporting the Commission’s regulatory mandate. An equally important part of the role involves participating on policy development projects and representing the Commission on various national corporate finance committees, helping shape securities regulation across jurisdictions.

In addition, you will also act as a key accounting resource for the Division and the Commission, providing expertise through the review of financial information and supporting budgeting and financial planning activities.

Your Focus

  • National policy and regulatory leadership

Participate on different Canadian Securities Administrators committees to support the development and interpretation of corporate finance policies and rules, and represent the Commission’s position at the national level.

  • Prospectus and disclosure review

Lead high-quality reviews of prospectus, continuous disclosure, and exempt market filings to ensure compliance with accounting standards and full, true, and plain disclosure, and recommend corrective actions where needed.

  • Team support and oversight

Provide guidance and oversight to the Corporate Finance Officer and support key operational activities within the Division.

  • Accounting and financial expertise

Act as a key accounting resource by supporting budgeting and forecasting, reviewing financial and regulatory data, and contributing expertise to internal projects and initiatives.

 

What you bring

  • Completion of a university degree
  • CPA designation
  • 7+ years relevant post-designation work experience
  • In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Auditing Standards
  • Working knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Effective communicator in both collegial and adversarial situations
  • Highly analytical
  • Sound judgment while exercising tact and discretion
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines 

Additional Strengths

  • Knowledge of securities legislation is a definite asset
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset
