The salary range for this position is:

  • Recruitment range: $69,052 - $76,129 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
  • Performance range: $89,791 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.

Job Summary

Mandate:
The mission of the UVic Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science (FECS) is to advance the fields of engineering and computer science through transformative education, research excellence, and innovation that serves both people and the planet.

The Professional Programs Recruitment and Education Advisor (PREA) supports the strategic goals of the FECS by leading recruitment, admissions, and advising initiatives for the Faculty’s professional programs, including its professional Master of Engineering (MEng) programs, its micro-credentials (certificates and micro-certificates), and its professional Doctor of Engineering (DEng) program (DEng).

Reporting to the Associate Dean Professional Programs and Development and working closely with the Faculty’s Marketing Specialist and the Professional Programs Admissions Officer, the PREA ensures the effective promotion of professional programs, attraction of high-quality applicants, and smooth coordination of academic policies and processes in alignment with University and Faculty standards.

Objectives:

  • Lead recruitment and marketing efforts to attract high-quality applicants to the FECS professional programs through targeted outreach, events, and collaboration with Communications and Marketing.
  • Guide and advise prospective and current students on admissions, program requirements, and academic pathways, ensuring a supportive and informed student experience.
  • Coordinate admissions processes in collaboration with the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Graduate Admissions and Records, and other UVic departments to ensure efficient and transparent procedures.
  • Interpret and apply academic policies at both the University and Faculty levels, providing guidance to faculty, staff, and students to maintain consistency and compliance.
  • Represent FECS professional programs professionally at recruitment events and strategic engagements, strengthening the visibility and reputation of FECS professional programs domestically and internationally.
  • This position will be required to travel domestically and internationally for recruitment events related to undergraduate and graduate programs. Requirements include flexibility to work long days and some weekends, holding a valid driver’s license, and holding a valid passport to gain entry to the United States and other countries.

Job Requirements

This position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree plus 3-5 years of experience, preferably in a combination of industry and post-secondary environments and/or professional program including:

  • Advising graduate students.
  • Experience developing digital and print marketing campaigns.
  • Experience analyzing, problem solving and resolving complex academic and administrative issues.
  • Experience using a student records database.
  • A valid passport for international travel, including to the United States.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities include:

  • Ability to exercise good judgment in relation to procedures, processes, complex regulations and policies involving students, faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated technological abilities with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, data management platforms, and CRM tools.
  • Demonstrated thorough up-to-date knowledge of domestic and international education systems.
  • Understanding of social media platforms and how they are engaged for recruitment purposes.
  • An understanding of business education practices and policies.
  • Demonstrated public speaking and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational, administrative, and time management skills to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proven assessment, advising, planning, and problem-solving abilities supported by strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build productive relationships with diverse interest holders and maintain a safe, respectful, and confidential environment for students.
  • Highly motivated, service oriented, and able to work independently and collaboratively to support institutional goals and inclusive engagement.
  • Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment.

Assets:

  • A valid, class 5 BC driver’s license.
  • Ability to use Hubspot and Adobe Creative Cloud.
  • Knowledge of domestic and international education systems.
  • An understanding of the responsibilities of various UVic departments (e.g. SAFA, Graduate Admissions and Records Office and University Systems, University Health Services).
  • Proficiency with a second language.
  • An understanding of FECS graduate academic policies, procedures, and regulations.
