About the role
Creative Director Work Location: Toronto, ON
About Canadian Strategic Missions Corp. (CSMC) Canadian Strategic Missions Corporation is building the capabilities that will shape Canada's future in space, defence, and energy. We focus on developing dual use systems that address critical challenges here on Earth while enabling sustained human activity beyond it. In a short time, CSMC has established real momentum. We have secured significant government investment to advance next generation micro nuclear reactors in partnership with leading institutions, alongside expanding a portfolio of technologies designed for remote environments, national defence, and future space missions. These efforts reflect a broader ambition to deliver reliable power and critical infrastructure where it matters most.
Our work is grounded in close collaboration with government and guided by a clear sense of purpose: to build sovereign capability at a time when it has never been more important. We care deeply about execution, long term impact and earning the trust required to deliver systems that will service Canada and its allies for decades. CSMC is a company for builders. We are a group of people drawn to hard problems, meaningful impact and the opportunity to shape systems that matter at a national and global scale. We are building a team that thrives in ambiguity, values execution, and is motivated by mission and impact.
Responsibilities Lead CSMC’s marketing and communications function, setting the creative direction while remaining deeply hands‑on in producing high‑quality materials. Translate complex engineering, nuclear, defence, and space concepts into clear, compelling narratives for government, partners, investors, and the public. Develop and maintain CSMC’s visual identity across all channels, ensuring consistency, clarity, and alignment with mission and sovereign‑capability messaging. Create technical and non‑technical content including presentations, reports, infographics, animations, web copy, social media content, and branded collateral. Produce graphic design assets using modern tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, etc.) and oversee multimedia development including video, photography, and motion graphics. Support PR and external communications, including press releases, media packages, announcements, and stakeholder‑facing materials. Partner closely with engineering, business development, and leadership teams to support proposals, RFPs, regulatory submissions, and strategic communications. Manage CSMC’s digital presence, including website content, social media strategy, and targeted campaigns. Ensure all communications comply with security, controlled‑goods, and export‑control requirements. Mentor junior team members and contribute to building a high‑performance creative and communications capability within CSMC. Operate with a builder mindset — comfortable in ambiguity, proactive in execution, and motivated by mission‑driven impact.
Qualifications 5+ years of experience in marketing, communications, creative direction, or visual design, ideally in technical, scientific, or regulated industries. Demonstrated leadership ability with experience guiding creative strategy while remaining hands‑on in execution. Strong graphic design skills and proficiency with modern design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Canva, or equivalent). Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and persuasively. Experience producing multimedia content (presentations, infographics, animations, video scripts, technical visuals). Familiarity with PR, media engagement, and external communications best practices. Ability to work cross‑functionally with engineering, leadership, and external partners in a fast‑moving, mission‑driven environment. Strong project management skills and attention to detail. Experience in defence, aerospace, nuclear, or other technical sectors is an asset but not required.
Why Join CSMC CSMC is building technologies that will shape Canada’s future in energy, space, and national security. You’ll join a team of engineers, scientists, and mission‑driven builders who care deeply about solving hard problems that matter. We move quickly, support each other, and take pride in doing work that has real impact. Along the way, you’ll have access to competitive compensation, benefits, and equity, and the chance to grow with a company that values ownership, curiosity, and technical excellence.
