Specific Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the day-to-day activities of the sample reception/layout clerks;

  • Acts as the primary point of contact regarding sample reception for the lab staff and Account Managers for questions regarding samples and client submissions;

  • Coordinates all of the incoming work and directs organizational priority based on holding times, rush TAT, etc.;

  • Coordinates any subcontract samples that need delivery to Shipping on a daily basis;

  • Ensures a high level of customer service in all interactions with clients and couriers;

  • Carries out all duties of the Sample Receipt Clerk as required (see below for details);

  • Receives samples and communicate with couriers;

  • Records sample temperatures and conditions on delivery;

  • Completes required paperwork for sampler analysis requests and processing;

  • Notifies Client Service representatives of any non-conformances or rush work;

  • Labels samples and distribute to the appropriate locations when required;

  • Processes samples in a timely manner to meet company turn around goals;

  • Act as a backup Login Clerk - Login training required:

  • Enter client information, sample identification and analysis required;

  • Ensure correct due dates and comments are applied to the file;

  • Handling rush requests: notify the appropriate lab staff and Account Mangers;

  • Print labels for all samples containers;

  • Generate paperwork for any internal or external sublets analyses;

  • Pass the completed file, printed labels and sublet paperwork to a Sample Layout Clerk for final labelling.

  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;

  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Good English communication skills required (auditory, verbal, written, and reading);
  • Basic user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook), with basic computer skills;
  • Accurate and efficient data entry skills;
  • Well organized, with the ability to meet strict deadlines;
  • Process oriented, with the ability to critically think in ambiguous situations;
  • Work independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required;
  • Commitment to excellence and a client-focused attitude.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Some experience working in a fast-paced, production, and/or preparation environment;
  • Knowledge from high school science courses and/or basic laboratory safety is an asset;
  • Experience working with chemicals or in a laboratory setting (ex. school) is an asset, but not required.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs./23 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances;
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
  • Ability to stand for up to a full shift;
  • Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant fumes;
  • Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
