Nature & Scope

YMCA Camp Elphinstone is seeking individuals to fill the role of Resource & Inclusion Supervisor.

The Resource & Inclusion Supervisor oversees all aspects of transportation at Camp Elphinstone, including coordinating ferry/bus transportation and sign-in/out processes for first and last days of sessions, scheduling out-trip and day camp transportation, ensuring all vehicles and trailers are regularly checked by all drivers to ensure they are in proper working order, keeping logs and paperwork up to date, reporting deficiencies and protecting the assets of the YMCA through appropriate use. They will also assist in administrative tasks, including creating camper lists, organizing and distributing lost and found items, and communicating with parents/guardians. This position requires a highly organized individual with special attention to detail.

The Resource & Inclusion Supervisor is responsible for facilitating inclusion at Camp Elphinstone. This includes scheduling Inclusion Counsellors with campers who require one-to-one support to be successful at camp, managing inclusion supplies, and facilitating inclusion support for cabins where appropriate. This role also communicates extensively with camper families and provides mentoring and training to the rest of the team to improve inclusion at camp. Inclusion at camp is everyone’s responsibility, and the Resource & Inclusion Supervisor works with their team of Inclusion Counsellors to facilitate the progress of the entire staff team.

The Resource & Inclusion Supervisor is a member of the Supervisor team. The Supervisor team collaborates closely with the Summer Camp Manager and Assistant Summer Camp Managers to foster a positive camp culture and prioritize the safety and well-being of all campers. Dedicated to delivering a 5-star experience for campers and their families, Section Supervisors play a key role in the development and facilitation of summer staff training. Supervisors participate in scheduling staff, managing program budgets, driving camp vehicles, and facilitating the success of their section of camp.

Major Responsibilities**-** in this position, you will**:**

  • Provide direct supervision to the Inclusion Counsellors. Provide leadership and role modelling to all staff.
  • Assist with developing and delivering innovative training that supports professional development of staff & volunteers.
  • Organize, plan, and facilitate all aspects of the inclusion at camp.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians in a professional manner.
  • Plan Inclusion Counsellor schedules to ensure strong program delivery and necessary time off.
  • Assist in purchasing supplies and managing the budget for inclusion supplies and staff socials.
  • Coordinate all aspects of transportation including ferry reservations, out-trip pick-up/drop-offs, camper luggage, the day camp bus route, and shuttles for international groups.
  • Facilitate sign-in and sign-out days.
  • Schedule all staff for first and last day of camp responsibilities.
  • Responsible for the logistics of cabin change requests, camper lists, and transportation/travel lists.
  • Organizing and distributing Lost & Found items, ensuring timely communication with families if required.
  • Collaborate with other members of the supervisor team to support all sections of camp.
  • Ensure the safety of all members, participants, staff, and property by following YMCA standards/policies/procedures and ensuring they are maintained amongst all participants and staff.
  • Camp staff are expected to contribute to the success of camp by completing tasks in addition to those listed above. These may include, but are not limited to: cleaning, preparing program materials, and transporting and maintaining equipment.

Qualification**-you bring:**

  • Strong leadership skills, and the ability to foster an inclusive and collaborative culture among staff.
  • Previous experience in administration and/or scheduling.
  • Proven ability to solve problems independently. Experience training and mentoring staff.
  • Advanced understanding of behavior management, group facilitation, and risk management.
  • 3 years of experience in camping, youth recreation, and/or outdoor education.
  • Standard First Aid & CPR-C
  • Criminal Reference Check with a Vulnerable Sector Screening issued no later than six (6) months preceding start date.
  • 3 successful reference checks.
  • BC Class 5 Driver’s License.

  • Bronze Cross or Paddle Canada Instructor

About Camp Elphinstone:

YMCA Camp Elphinstone, located near Gibsons on the Sunshine Coast, is just a 40-minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay, Vancouver. Nestled on 144 acres of temperate rainforest along the shores of Howe Sound, the camp offers a variety of programs for youth ages 5-17 during July and August. These include one- and two-week overnight camps, Leadership Development programs, multi-day paddling and hiking trips, and day camps. From September to June, Camp Elphinstone functions as an Outdoor Education, Event, and Retreat Centre, hosting schools, conferences, weddings, and other special interest groups. Annually, the camp serves over 10,000 participants.

YMCA Camp Elphinstone can accommodate and dine up to 472 campers or guests. During July and August, the camp employs around 140 staff and volunteers, while the spring and fall Outdoor Education seasons see a team of 20-50 members. In the winter season, a smaller core team of 10 staff members is maintained. Successful staff at Camp Elphinstone are self-motivated individuals dedicated to helping children and youth thrive in an outdoor camp setting, and they are committed to providing 5-star customer service to all client groups.
