About the role
We are seeking a Manager, Disability Consulting to join our Organizational Solutions Inc. (OSI) team in Ontario or Alberta.
The Manager, Disability Consulting, will work closely with internal partners (Account Executives, Benefit Consultants, Brokers, Partners) as well as external clients to provide subject matter expertise in disability policy and process, contracts, and administration. This role will support a variety of client-specific initiatives such as program audits, review data analytics, assessments tailored to each client's unique needs, insurer oversights, intervention, and training. The successful candidate will collaborate with industry experts to design, implement, and sustain leading-edge solutions in disability management.
The Manager, Disability Consulting will:
Operational Oversight
- Respond to internal and external client inquiries in a timely and professional manner; conduct follow-ups as needed.
- Collaborate with clients and internal partners to define project scope and expected deliverables.
- Ensure third-party providers deliver value-added disability management services aligned with client goals.
- Support service delivery by obtaining, analyzing, and verifying key information.
- Analyze reports and contribute benchmarking insights and industry data to offer best-in-class recommendations.
- Conduct cost analysis and identify opportunities through active claim reviews, lapse time analysis, duration analysis, disease state analysis, and LTD reserve review.
- Participate in LTD case reviews and development of action planning.
- Participate in meetings, representing the organization with professionalism and subject matter expertise in disability management.
- Oversee client onboarding process to ensure seamless implementation.
- Take appropriate action to address client service requests and maintain high satisfaction standards.
- Resolve escalated issues effectively and efficiently.
- Conduct and complete full file reviews and support in case discussions.
- Complete payment calculations and benefits amounts.
- Ensure CPP applications and Waver of Life applications are filed and considered.
- Review contract provisions and recommend improvements aligned with best practice.
- Complete and review service-level agreements.
- Create and propose billing models aligned with the proposed initiative that is respectful of all contractual limitations.
- Design policies based on legislation and best practices.
- Complete reviews of current client policies and processes, including assessments of evaluation of risk and compliance requirements, multi-participant engagement, interaction with collective bargaining agreements, and communication strategies and support.
- Complete reviews of current disability management programs including analysis of claims activities, process reviews, and caseload management, documents, modified return to work and workplace accommodations, policies and procedures, roles and responsibilities structures, and collective bargaining agreements and union/association relationships.
- Track and maintain awareness of client contract expiry dates and coordinate with DM consultant to ensure service continuity and enhancement.
- Present externally at finalist presentations, seminars, or conferences to contribute to the body of disability management knowledge, i.e. conference presentations.
Process Optimization
- Create and develop process documents and workflows based on client needs and process analysis.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Develop new business relationships, both internally and externally, and build current relationships with carriers, brokers, and other potential clients.
- Collaborate with internal and external clients to develop disability management policies and procedures tailored to organizational structure, government guidelines, and workplace culture.
- Identify knowledge gaps and deliver training on Disability Management, Workers’ Compensation, Return to Work, Legislative Leaves, and Workplace Accommodation.
- Provide basic fact findings and discoveries with clients related to reviews during initial policy review and consultations.
- Training internal teams and client teams.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure all operations adhere to legal and regulatory requirements, mitigating risks effectively.
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor operations staff, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
To be successful as a Manager, Disability Consulting you will need:
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Minimum 10 years of industry knowledge and experience in Disability Management or a combination of experience and education
- Registered professional status within the disability management or professional health sector along with additional course work in occupational health, rehabilitation, legislation related to disability management, human resource management, or disability insurance
- Labour relations experience and/or education would be an asset
- CDMP or NIDMAR would be considered an asset
- Experience partnering with Third Party Providers to affect positive change
- Strong understanding of benefits administration systems
- Proficiency in data analysis and performance metrics
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
