The Student Association at BCIT is a leading non-profit student-led organization committed to enhancing student life through advocacy and providing student-centered, responsive and pro-active services. Considered one of the leading student associations in the province, we live our mission and are student-focused in all that we do. Students lead our organization and govern the affairs of the BCITSA. Our Board of Directors is composed of 12 elected Student Executives and Student Councilors from each of the different Schools at BCIT.

The Opportunity
The Events Assistant provides support to the Events department in planning, preparing, promoting, and delivering special events and programs for students. Reporting to the Event Manager, the Events Assistant is involved in all aspects of event delivery including room bookings, equipment, set ups, tear down, and volunteers at events across all BCIT campuses. The Events Assistant incorporates BCITSA’s equity, diversity and inclusion values into their work and professional relationships.
What You Will Do:
EVENT EXECUTION
- Assist in the research, development, planning and implementation of student events
- Assist engagement team with activities surrounding BCITSA events
- Organize entertainment activities as required
- Collaborate with the Engagement team to implement improvements to logistics processes
- Liaise with event-related services to ensure their timely delivery and execution, including catering and security
- Represent the BCITSA at a variety of events including Habitat Pub parties, career fairs etc.
- Help collect information related to events programming through various means including internet, libraries, telephone, and personal interviews
- Set-up necessary equipment, including AV and internet access
- Help set-up and take down events, including chairs, tables, piping and draping, and all other aspects
- Provide support for staff and Student Executives to deliver department specific events
- Submit flyers, posters and other promotional materials to print and ensure distribution
- Fulfill various day-of event tasks (MC, welcome booth, ensuring satisfaction of vendors etc.)
- Assist with writing event descriptions
- May travel to Specialty campuses for Events/attend evening events across campuses
GENERAL SUPPORT
- Support event presenters in the set-up of presentations and other required technology
- Support Club members by providing access to equipment and demonstrating use of equipment
- Supports Link Magazine as needed with web posting, distribution, writing, and proofreading
- Supports Marketing & Communication as needed with photoshoots, content review, and other duties
- Other duties as required
About You:
You are a proactive and energetic event support professional with 1–2 years of experience, skilled in planning, logistics, and communications. Comfortable with technology, photography, and writing, you thrive in fast-paced, hands-on environments, are physically capable of event tasks, and embrace BCITSA’s commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- One to two years of relevant experience
- Previous experience in writing or communication at a professional level
KNOWELDGE & ABILITIES
- Intermediate proficiency using Windows computers
- Intermediate proficiency using MS Office Suite
- Photography skills
- Writing skills
- A driver’s license
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to be on their feet for long periods of time
