The Opportunity

The City of Selkirk is currently in search of a Seasonal Caretaker to join our team for the summer. Under the direction of the Manager of Cultural and Recreational Programs, the Seasonal Caretaker is responsible for performing custodial duties related to the maintenance of public buildings and facilities

Job Duties

  1. Custodial
  • Responsible for custodial duties within City facilities, including public buildings, recreational facilities, park buildings, office spaces, or assigned premises.

  • Perform any necessary cleaning, washing, waxing, polishing, dusting or vacuuming of floors, windows, walls, furniture and/or equipment in and around the assigned facilities.

  • Perform minor maintenance such as emptying and removing garbage, replacement of light bulbs, and minor equipment repair.

  • Assist maintenance personnel in the performance of their duties, if required.

  • Perform minor outdoor duties at assigned facilities such as weeding, litter clean up and other various minor grounds maintenance duties.

  1. Equipment Operation and Maintenance

  • Perform routine checks, cleaning and basic maintenance of the equipment they are operating.

  • Report needs for repairs, supplies and tools to immediate supervisor.

  1. Provide support and training to other employees as required.

  2. Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications/Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid WHMIS Certification
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, this includes the ability to understand written and verbal instructions
  • Valid Class 5 or G Drivers License
  • Knowledge and experience of the materials, practices, tools and equipment used in the custodial care of buildings

This is for a Seasonal Unionized position ranging from May to November 2026. This opportunity is open to all applicants. This seasonal position is applicable to union dues but is not entitled to any benefits or entitlement under the Collective Agreement except for Article 24.
