About the role
Vendor / Procurement Category Manager
Mississauga 110-115K 5 days in-office
Our client is a shared services organization that supports a network of independently owned retail businesses across Canada.
The Procurement Category Manager will lead and expand a national vendor program representing approximately $30M in annual spend across more than 100 supplier agreements, supporting independently owned store operators through centralized procurement programs, strategic supplier partnerships, and value-added services that drive cost savings and operational efficiency. Managing a diverse portfolio of indirect spend categories: including security, pest control, office supplies, uniforms, cleaning services, waste management, facility maintenance, lighting, energy management, and other business services. The role is responsible for supplier sourcing and evaluation, market analysis, contract negotiation, vendor performance management, program governance, compliance, and issue resolution. Working closely with store owner committees, business stakeholders, and suppliers, the successful candidate will identify new category opportunities, increase program participation, communicate vendor offerings and promotions, and continuously enhance the value delivered to store owners, enabling them to focus more on growing their businesses and less on managing operational overhead.
To be successful in this role, candidates will bring experience in procurement, vendor management, category management, strategic sourcing, or supplier relationship management, ideally within a retail, franchise, multi-site, or shared services environment. The ideal candidate is a strong negotiator with the ability to build credibility with business owners, committee members, and suppliers while influencing decisions and driving commercial outcomes. Success will come from a combination of commercial acumen, stakeholder management, analytical thinking, and a proactive approach to identifying cost-saving opportunities and program improvements. Experience managing indirect spend categories, leading supplier negotiations, driving vendor adoption, and balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders will be highly valued.
