Position Summary
The primary function of the Fitness Trainer (Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor and Weight Room Attendant) is to assist in improving the health and wellness of patients within a structured time frame through gym time and fitness classes. The Fitness Trainer will set priorities and work effectively with patients whose demands may vary from having little experience with fitness, to those rehabilitating from an injury, to those patients looking formore challenging workouts. If the patient is prescribed stretches, exercises or general conditioning from a physiotherapist or other health care professionals the Trainer will ensure the patient is correctly performing the recommended exercises.
Duties and Responsibilities
Educate patients in the importance of a well-rounded fitness program including all fitness components.
Personal Training - Design balanced workout routines for patients and support patients in rehabilitative routines.
Group Fitness Instructor - Set up and facilitate effective group fitness classes providing safety and exercise modifications when required. Clean up and organization of equipment.
Weight Room Attendant - Observe and provide effective support in the gym.
Demonstrate exercises and ensure the patient is able to perform them correctly.
Oversee and monitor patients to ensure they are safe at all times. Attendance and reporting.
Ensure weight machines/equipment work correctly. Report any problems.
Enforce all rules and regulations of the facility and provide feedback to patients.
Participate in additional mandatory education opportunities.
Successful applicant must be able to fulfill shifts allocated to them and be able to assist the team with subbing shifts.
Experience and Qualifications
Current Personal Trainer Certification.
Current Group Fitness Certification
Prior on the job experience utilizing specialized fitness knowledge and skills
Current First Aid and CPR.
Graduated from High School or equivalent.
Current computer skills.
Ability to establish priorities, work with minimal supervision and manage time effectively.
A high degree of initiative and willingness to assist in any area required.
Ability to deal effectively and compassionately with patients in many capacities with a variety of demands.
A general working knowledge of the 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and other 12 Step
Programs is useful but not required.
Must respect all aspects of patient confidentiality
