##Overview

As a Biodiversity Research Intern, you will support a variety of research and laboratory activities in the field of biodiversity. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals with a strong interest in environmental and ecological research, providing hands-on experience in laboratory work, field sampling, data entry, and operational support. You will assist with organizing research activities, maintaining lab equipment, collecting and preparing samples, and supporting animal care, all under the guidance of experienced researchers. This role offers exposure to both office and field environments and may involve occasional travel to research sites. It’s a great opportunity to gain practical skills and insight into scientific research processes while contributing to meaningful biodiversity studies.

**This is a three-month contract position, and the salary listed on the posting is annualized.

##Responsibilities

• Assist with laboratory and field research activities under the supervision of senior researchers.
• Perform routine laboratory procedures, including sample collection, preparation, and simple tests/measurements.
• Enter and maintain research data in databases according to established protocols.
• Organize and schedule meetings, interviews, focus groups, and other research-related events.
• Maintain accurate records, lab manuals, and research documentation.
• Support animal care, including feed preparation and routine maintenance of animal care facilities.
• Maintain laboratory and office supplies, equipment, and inventory; coordinate repairs as needed.
• Prepare courier shipments and ensure timely delivery of research materials.
• Clean and organize lab workspaces, sterilize glassware, and perform basic equipment maintenance.
• Provide basic information to clients, participants, and colleagues, answering routine inquiries.
• Travel to research sites as required to support fieldwork activities.
• Follow standard operating procedures and work instructions, referring deviations or issues to supervisors.

##Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year of post-secondary education in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field.
• Limited to no prior work experience required; entry-level position.
• Basic understanding of laboratory and research procedures is an asset.
• Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and standard operating procedures.
• Comfortable working in office, laboratory, and outdoor field environments.
• Willingness and ability to travel to research sites as needed.
• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
• Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in data collection and documentation.
