Online Instructor-Therapeutic Recreation Assistant Program

Stenberg College is currently seeking Online Instructors to join our team, for upcoming courses in our Therapeutic Recreation Assistant – Gerontology Specialization program.

About the Role:
-**Employment Type:**Part-Time Sessional/Semester Course Delivery Contract -**Location:**Online (Must be located within BC) -Compensation:$41-$45/hr -**Schedule:**Multiple opportunities are available, with courses beginning in August 2026 and beyond. Schedules may vary
Qualifications:
Stenberg College hires instructors based on the instructor qualification standards required by the Private Training Institutions Regulation Unit (PTIRU). Regulated programs often require additional qualifications.
An instructor of a vocational or practical course must have the following:
- A certificate, diploma, or post-secondary degree relevant to the subject matter (e.g. Recreation Therapy, Recreation Management, Sport Science, Rehabilitation) and 2 years of full-time work experience in a career occupation relevant to the subject matter of the course.
- OR, 10 years of full-time work experience in a career occupation relevant to the subject matter of the course.
In addition, all instructors must demonstrate the following:

Proof of current licensure, registration, or membership, including confirmation of being in good standing with the applicable provincial regulatory body, college, or professional association (as relevant to the program area).

Evidence of current knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to deliver contracted courses within the program and support student learning.

Completion of, or active progress towards Stenberg College recognized Instructor Professional Development training (in-class or online).

Certification in online teaching or prior experience teaching in an online environment (preferred but not required).

Clear Criminal Record Check (CRC) under the Ministry of the Attorney General.

Excellent written and oral communication skills appropriate for an adult learning and teaching environment.

Technical proficiency in performing moderate computer functions, including use of email, learning management systems, electronic grade reporting, and applications such as word processors, spreadsheets, presentation software, internet browsers, and web conferencing platforms.

Demonstrates commitment to applying institutional instructional resources, such as grading rubrics, marking guides, log sheets, and related tools, to ensure fairness, consistency, and alignment with program standards.

Commitment to participating in professional development in the areas of equity, cooperation, diversity, and reconciliation, including, but not limited to, knowledge of Indigenous health and wellness and the historical and current policies, practices, and impacts of colonialism.

Understanding that annual proof of 144 hours of current & relevant practice is required for ongoing teaching contracts.

- Current and relevant practice may be defined in many ways:
✓ A faculty member working 12, 12-hour paid shifts or 18, 8-hour paid shifts in industry.
✓ A faculty member's job shadowing with industry professionals in various units or departments relevant to the courses the faculty member is contracted to teach. This may include practicum monitoring and/or clinical instruction in an industry setting.
✓ Attendance at annual industry conferences, AGMs, and in-services being provided by employers/Stenberg College.
✓ Participating in industry-specific committee work.

Stenberg College provides Instructors with a full curriculum for each course. A thorough orientation would take place prior to stepping into the online delivery classroom. Ongoing in-services and teaching support are provided.
