The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Innovation, you'll join our Innovation & Sustainability team as a Product Developer, turning creative ideas into real, market-ready products. From lab testing and validation to industrialization and CAPEX projects, you'll collaborate closely with Operations and Quality to bring innovative, sustainable solutions to life.

What You'll Do

Innovation

  • Stay ahead of market trends and benchmarks to identify and propose new product opportunities.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on product innovations and partnership initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of core and transformative innovation roadmaps, including briefs and concept decks.
  • Lead feasibility studies for new concepts, managing all aspects of execution from idea to validation.
  • Analyze data and consumer insights to support new product development decisions.
  • Participate in concept validation and help define strategic innovation directions.

Product Development

  • Identify and develop strategic opportunities within existing and emerging product categories.
  • Build in-depth technical expertise on both new and established products.
  • Serve as the technical reference for developed products across departments.
  • Formulate and test prototypes and recipes for internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Conduct physico-chemical analyses and oversee internal and external product trials.
  • Represent the voice of the customer throughout the development process.
  • Actively participate in production trials and first industrial runs to ensure product readiness.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Quality, and Production to ensure smooth technical transfer and alignment.
  • Stay informed on relevant laws, regulations, and certifications affecting product compliance.
  • Adhere to and promote company food safety and environmental programs (HACCP, SQF, Organic, Kosher, Non-GMO, etc.).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Industrialization & CAPEX Leadership

  • Develop and optimize control processes, standard operating procedures, and technical tools.
  • Partner with Operations, Quality, and Production teams to ensure seamless technical transfer.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Operations to define, plan, and deliver industrial capabilities and CAPEX projects.
  • Drive scalability and manufacturability of new products through robust industrialization processes.

What You Bring

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Engineering, Innovation Management, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of R&D experience in food and beverage manufacturing.
  • Experience in the chocolate or confectionery industry is a strong asset.

Technical Knowledge

  • Demonstrated experience in product development, project management, and industrialization (including CAPEX projects).
  • Solid understanding of GMP standards, food safety regulations, and compliance programs.
  • Experience using TraceGains or similar specification and formula management platforms.

Skills & Competencies

  • Collaborative mindset with strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Highly organized, autonomous, and capable of managing multiple projects and priorities.
  • Entrepreneurial thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Adaptable to change, ambiguity, and fast-paced environments.

What to Expect

  • Participation in sensory evaluations and product tastings - must be comfortable tasting a variety of foods and free from related allergies.
  • Hybrid environment including office, lab, and pilot-plant settings.
  • Hands-on involvement in testing, validation, and product scale-up.
  • Fast-paced, evolving environment with multiple priorities.
  • Occasional travel (up to 25%) across Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and Europe.
  • May involve cold or controlled environments, dry ice handling, and light lifting (up to 30 lbs).
