**Position:**Cafeteria Assistant - CONTINUING

Monday to Friday 11:00 am to 3:30 pm

SUMMARY:

Reports to the Principal and works under the direction of the Teaching Chef to provide kitchen assistance for food preparation and sales; cleanup of work area and equipment. Maintains food safety.

DUTIES:

  1. Works with students to set up front cafeteria line. Ensures food and related items are available for cafeteria food sales. Sells and serves cafeteria food items prior to and during lunch periods.

  2. Maintains a clean work area by washing and cleaning cafeteria supplies and equipment. Replaces items in

storage areas.

  1. May be required to: prepare cash trays, operate cash register, count cash, record sales and GST, and prepare deposit.

  2. Cleans and/or prepares food for a variety of hot and cold menu items. Stores excess food and supplies. Prepares steam trays for hot items. Prepares coffee.

  3. Washes and dries kitchen laundry.

  4. Assists students in the operation of equipment and in the choice of appropriate storage procedures for food and cafeteria items.

  5. Assists with inventory of food supplies and materials.

  6. Remains current with changing technology, practices and equipment.

  7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Completion of Grade 10 education or equivalent.

Minimum of 1 year recent experience working in an institutional or vocational kitchen or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Completion of a food safe course.

Knowledge and ability to handle safely a wide variety of industrial kitchen machinery and equipment.

Good communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to use judgement and tact when providing information. Ability to meet time deadlines and set standards.

Physically capable of performing the duties of the position.

Previous experience working with teenagers is an asset.

Knowledge of WorkSafe BC, WHMIS and Savolite regulations. Safe work practices.

Some positions may require the knowledge of a language other than English.
