As a Social Research Policy Analyst within the Demographics and Evaluation area, you will support research and policy analysis activities. This position requires that you are a motivated individual with excellent social research, data analysis, communication, and interpersonal skills. Primary duties include:

  • Prepare, maintain, and steward complex electronic datasets including socioeconomic, demographic, and Geographic Information System (GIS) data, as well as social service indicators and outcomes.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative data analysis and interpretation and summarize findings for non-technical audiences in recurrent and one-time reports and presentations.
  • Design and complete literature reviews and environmental scans and summarize findings in reports and presentations.
  • Provide training and expertise on data collection to internal and external clients.

Qualifications

  • A degree in a Social Sciences discipline or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of research experience, including social policy research, research design and program evaluation.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and/or with relational databases is required.
  • Experience working in and/or with Calgary's non-profit sector would be considered a strong asset.
  • Advanced proficiency in Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) or related software, business analytics tools, such as Business Intelligence (BI), and knowledge of geospatial software would be considered strong assets.
  • Experience in creating dashboards using data visualization tools such as tableau and PowerBI would be considered an asset.
  • Applied knowledge of research methodology, instrument design, analysis, cleaning, analyzing, interpreting census data or other large data sets.
  • Ability to provide evidence-based interpretation and produce a variety of research communications (for example: briefing notes, fact sheets, reports, data visualizations, presentations).
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize competing tasks to complete work on time with high quality.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to changing scenarios with efficiency and thoroughness while thinking critically about solutions to complex problems.

Workstyle

  • This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

Compensation: Pay Grade 10 $42.62 - 56.97 per hour

Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day

work week, with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
