POSITION SUMMARY
In alignment with the vision and values of Park Place Seniors Living (PPSL) and under the clinical direction of an Occupational Therapist, the Rehabilitation Assistant is an integral member of the interdisciplinary team, supporting residents in achieving their rehabilitative goals.

The Rehabilitation Assistant implements assigned components of treatment plans, assists therapists in monitoring and evaluating resident progress, and ensures a strong commitment to resident safety in keeping with PPSL’s “culture of safety” and strategic directions.

TYPICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out designated components of rehabilitative treatment plans/programs as directed by a therapist, including exercises, mobility training, self-care activities, life skills, communication/oral therapy, and use of adaptive devices.
  • Observe, record, and report resident progress and changes in condition to the designated clinician; provide input into treatment planning and modification.
  • Demonstrate the use of prescribed equipment and adaptive devices, and assist with seating, positioning, and mobility training.
  • Assist in the fabrication, modification, setup, and adjustment of equipment such as splints, wheelchairs, and exercise devices.
  • Provide functional skills training to residents and families in daily living activities, mobility, and communication.
  • Assist residents in personal care as needed during therapy sessions.
  • Prepare and apply therapeutic treatment modalities (e.g., TENS, NMES, ice/heat, wax treatments) as assigned.
  • Maintain and clean therapy equipment, monitor supply inventories, and assist with equipment purchasing and repairs.
  • Complete required documentation including resident reports, supply requisitions, and workload statistics.
  • Perform clerical duties such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and maintaining records.
  • Transport equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, resident care conferences, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Attend education/in-service programs as required.
  • Contribute to PPSL committees, safety initiatives, and performance measurement processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant Program, or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
