Data Analyst – Power BI & Data Transformation Specialist
As a Data Analyst, you have a strong grasp of how data is shaped, transformed, and delivered within modern business intelligence environments. You play a key role in building data foundations, designing robust models, and developing reporting solutions that provide clear, actionable insights.

This role offers the opportunity to take ownership of end-to-end BI solutions, collaborate across diverse teams, and help shape the evolution of data analytics within our business.

This is an opportunity to shape how data is used across a growing maritime business — building the foundation for a more data-driven future and directly supporting strategic decision-making.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and transform data using Power Query (or equivalent tools), combining multiple sources — including SQL databases, Excel files, and web feeds — into clean, analysis-ready models.
  • Design and build scalable data models in Power BI, implementing advanced business logic with DAX to support KPIs, time intelligence, and dynamic calculations.
  • Develop and maintain end-to-end BI solutions, from ingestion pipelines through to semantic models and interactive dashboards.
  • Write and interpret SQL queries to extract and integrate data from relational databases.
  • Optimize data refresh processes, model performance, and DAX calculations to ensure reliability and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams — including operations, finance, commercial, and IT — to define reporting requirements and deliver intuitive, business-focused dashboards.
  • Communicate complex analytical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, supporting decision-making at multiple levels of the organization.
  • Contribute to data governance standards, documentation practices, and the development of analytics best practices.
  • Provide informal leadership and guidance to colleagues, sharing knowledge and promoting data literacy across the business.

Technical Environment & Tools

Power BI and Power Query form the core of our reporting ecosystem, supported by a broader Microsoft data stack. Experience with the following is considered an asset:

  • Data Integration & Transformation: Azure Data Factory, Power Query, and other ETL/ELT tools for building and automating data pipelines.
  • Data Storage & Modelling: SQL Server and Azure SQL Database, with familiarity in data warehousing concepts such as star schema design and slowly changing dimensions.
  • Cloud & Data Services: Azure Data Lake and Synapse Analytics for scalable storage and analytical processing.
  • Scripting & Automation: Python or R for advanced analytics, automation, or data quality checks.
  • Version Control & CI/CD: Git or Azure DevOps for managing BI artefacts and data projects.
  • APIs & External Data Feeds: Integration of third-party data sources using REST APIs and web data.

Expertise in every area is not required, but an understanding of how these technologies interact will help you succeed in the role and contribute to the ongoing development of our analytics platform.

Qualification, Skills and Key Competencies Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Postgraduate qualifications or relevant certifications (e.g. Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate, Azure Data Engineer Associate) are considered strong assets.
  • 5+ years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, or a related role.
  • Proven expertise with Power Query and Power BI in a Microsoft-centric environment.
  • Strong command of DAX for building calculated columns, measures, and complex data models.
  • Experience designing and implementing robust, scalable data models.
  • Working familiarity with SQL for data extraction and integration.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver end-to-end BI solutions that translate raw data into meaningful insights.
  • Strong collaboration skills and experience working cross-functionally with diverse teams to deliver analytics solutions aligned to business needs.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data concepts clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to influence decisions and promote a data-driven culture through insight and storytelling.
  • Exposure to data governance practices and solution lifecycle management.
