We are looking for a Production Engineer with deep Thermal SAGD and ESP expertise to lead and advance our Artificial Lift strategy, driving reliability, cost efficiency, and long‑term production performance. In this high‑impact role, you will combine hands‑on technical leadership with digital innovation and predictive analytics while collaborating across disciplines and with external partners to deliver continuous improvement. - Facilitate training and capability development for Production Engineers in ESP design, operation, and troubleshooting
Minimum Requirements:
- 7+ years of engineering experience in the oil and gas industry, with a strong focus on Thermal SAGD operations
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
- Registered or immediately eligible for registration with APEGA
- Demonstrated hands‑on expertise in ESP systems, including design, operation, optimization, and troubleshooting
- Field experience supporting ESPs or artificial lift systems (strong asset)
- Experience leveraging digital tools and analytics (e.g., PowerBI) to support performance monitoring and decision‑making
- Proven ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives, provide indirect leadership, and influence cross‑functional teams across multiple disciplines

Responsibilities:

Own and advance the full Artificial Lift–ESP strategy, maintaining a proactive, systemwide view of risks, opportunities, reliability, and long‑term performance

Develop and execute short‑ and long‑term plans to improve system reliability, reduce costs, and enhance predictive, failure‑based OPEX planning

Lead the annual ESP replacement program and provide technical oversight on system optimization and troubleshooting

Collaborate with production engineering, completions, operations, maintenance, supply chain, technical advisors, vendors, and industry partners to align priorities and accelerate improvements

Represent the organization in vendor engagements and industry joint initiatives (JIPs) to incorporate best practices and emerging technologies

Evaluate operating conditions, identify reliability risks, coordinate ESP and feedthrough DIFAs, and ensure high‑quality data integrity within the ESP database
Location and other Key Details:
- This position is office-based, with a location at Calgary head office, located in the Suncor Energy Centre at 150 – 6th Avenue S.W.
- Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday
- Occasional travel to site is required
- Our business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines, and the pay band will generally be based on years of experience and scope of work
