Position Summary:

The Production Supervisor's primary function is to ensure safety, productivity, quality, cost, delivery, and customer satisfaction goals are met or exceeded across all plant production operations and to achieve company objectives.

The objective of the Production Supervisor position is to lead team members directly reporting to them, as well as those with a dotted line in the production area(s) under their responsibility, ensuring their work areas are equipped with the necessary resources, materials, information, and services from support areas. This, in turn, enables the work area(s) to operate efficiently and effectively, thus improving safety, productivity, quality, costs, and customer satisfaction. Standardization, where necessary, is ensured consistently and sustainably.

Primary Responsibilities:

Priorities for the shift of responsibility will align with those of the broader Operations team, based on regular communications with the General Manager. The Production Supervisor will be responsible for leading and developing the skillset of 30-40 team members in all departments they are assigned to through training development programs and hands-on guidance.

  • Plan, organize, and control production work, including the timely setup of equipment.

  • Responsible for communicating with other functions and/or departments to address issues that may surface, such as a shortage in inventory, short lead times, incomplete or inaccurate work instructions, etc.

  • Overall responsibility for quality, productivity, delivery performance, and customer satisfaction

  • Delegate work orders to optimize productivity and employee capabilities.

  • Staff the manufacturing function (prepare job descriptions, make hiring decisions, and deploy resources) to meet production requirements

  • Lead by providing clear direction on priorities and communicating performance expectations.

  • Responsible for training or overseeing the training of employees in the use of equipment or production techniques.

  • Responsible for providing a safe work environment and promoting safe work habits in all employees.

  • Responsible for monitoring staffing levels, ensuring proper labor complements, and adjusting accordingly.

  • Supervision of staff scheduling to include work assignments/rotations, and employee training.

  • Vacations, employee breaks, overtime assignments, back-up for absent employees, shift rotations.

  • Coordination of work activities with other departments.

  • Actively leads all employee performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.

  • Assess skills of hourly employee performance by defining performance expectations, measuring results, and giving feedback and coaching.

  • Support continuous improvement initiative,s including activities related to: On Time Delivery, Lean Manufacturing, Health & Safety, Employee Performance, Quality, Overtime, and Housekeeping (5S) throughout the facility.

  • Responsible for ensuring all quality standards are adhered to in our area of responsibility.

  • Ensure and promote a safe working environment by abiding and ensuring employees follow safety regulations, policies, and procedures.

  • Assist staff in resolving complex operational problems and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality (including continuous improvement).

  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with company policy and implementing progressive discipline, when necessary, with the assistance of HR.

  • Conduct interviews, employee performance appraisals, and associated skills matrix, and orientation procedures as required throughout the shop floor and coordinate with functional groups as required to provide a holistic view of the person’s performance.

  • Prepare production and other related reports.

  • Review and revise the Time & Attendance system daily (attendance, sick leave, and vacation)

  • Measurement of piece parts and weldment parts, both in process and as final assemblies,s as required.

  • Documentation of measurements, material test reports, and all other deemed necessary (Initial Sample Reports, First Article Inspection Reports, etc.)

Education Requirements:

  • High school Education/post-secondary or Equivalent, or years of experience combined with education, designations, and certification.
  • Prior Supervisory experience, ideally in an ISO Certified environment.
  • 5-7 years’ experience supervising people is considered an asset.
  • 7-10 years of background experience in a production environment is considered an asset.

Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and business acumen.
  • Broad manufacturing experience, preferably in a metal fabrication environment
  • Knowledge of production processes, measurement & inspection procedures, production planning and control, and budget process.
  • Knowledge of MS Office and Visual
  • Ability to supervise and lead a diverse group of people.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and conflict-resolution skills
  • Experienced and knowledgeable in Safety and Health systems
  • A high degree of understanding of manufacturing systems.
  • Ability to drive employee engagement and team-oriented operations focused on goal alignment.
  • Ability to read and comprehend engineered schematics and detailed blueprints.
  • Strong experience with Lean Manufacturing principles, concepts, and experience
  • Good situational awareness.

Physical Environment:

  • Industrial manufacturing environment: noise, oils, dust, solvents, metal filings, weld fumes, weld flash, and compressed gases.
  • Personal Protective Equipment is provided and must be worn.
  • Material Handling driving for a lift truck.

Sensory Attention:

  • Constant Safety awareness of machinery and equipment being used, and machine processes being used in the surrounding working areas.
  • Constant awareness of proper lifting and bending procedures is practiced to prevent injury.

  • Pressure to perform at maximum potential to meet Quality Assurance Standards.
